"The Bet with the Gods"
Hatim, a greedy rich man from Sumeru, was traveling through Liyue and was dazzled by the opulence of the city. In a local cafe, he engaged in a fascinating conversation with a man who seemed to know everything about the city's history and customs. One of the topics that came up was how the gods flaunted power and wealth in that city, but this astute man seemed to disagree and thought that wealth meant nothing to the gods. Then, in a moment of euphoria, Hatim made a bet with the man and accepted a contract that seemed to be a unique opportunity to get really rich... little did he know he was talking to Zhongli, the God of Contracts.
The main clause of the contract was simple: Hatim should use his wealth to demonstrate the importance of simple things in life... If he succeeded, the reward would be an unimaginable fortune. However, Hatim, the most materialistic man in Sumeru, did not realize that the clause of the contract was paradoxical and ironic: how to use wealth to prove the essence of simplicity to gain even more wealth?
Desperate, Hatim resorted to ancient superstitions and rituals, for months he tried to find something that would please the gods, until in an ancient book he found something about a ritualistic dance of Fortune Dreams, and turned to Nilou, the most celebrated dancer in Sumeru, with a special outfit, made of precious fabrics and adorned with jade pieces and good luck symbols... The irony of it is that Nilou knew exactly what the essence of simplicity is, since she lived off the arts in a city where only academic knowledge seemed to matter... so will this dance work?!
