The new Casual preloading method requires models to actually be loaded in-game. This modernized preloader now fixes most of the caveats from the older preloaders using VScript.
Features:
- Preloads most new custom models, animations, and even ragdoll mods
- Main menu music after preloading (thanks treacherousfiend!)
- Works after Scream Fortress XV broke mods in Casual
- Overrides .BSP-packed models, custom Hale models and map props can now be modded (sorry this got mostly patched)
- ONLY works for newer "Casual Compatible" mods!
- Sv_pure 1 still blocks old texture swaps and all particle effects, even with a preload
- Increased startup times: My startup time increased from ~20 seconds to over a minute(!!)
-------HOW TO INSTALL-------
- Download casual_preloader.zip.
- Copy the contents of casual_preloader.zip into your Team Fortress 2/tf/custom folder.
- Add the following line to your TF2 launch options in Steam:
ALTERNATIVELY, if you want to boot into tr_walkway, Add this line to your TF2 launch options instead:
+exec preloaderwalkway.cfg
Done!
TROUBLESHOOTING:
- Some HUDs can mess with the preloader or increase load times since they also reload TF2's material system. Try booting without your HUD or try deleting your HUD's valve.rc file.
- Some settings in graphics configs may break the preloader, try testing your mods with your graphics config disabled
- "Preloading doesn't do anything in Casual and I've tried everything! Why doesn't it work???" Besides a fresh install of TF2, I honestly don't know why it may not work for certain users. Nobody exactly knows how preloading works under the hood
- The game may annoyingly tab you out while it's starting up. Can't fix this but windowed borderless helps
- Resupply lockers, control points, payload carts, and MvM robot mods may reset to default after a few matches
- Linux: Weird bug with folder names and not loading mods for some reason, it's been mentioned here and also in a HUD mod
- MvM Victory screen is gray and broken, this is an ancient TF2 bug -workaround coming soon
- Windows will say that TF2 isn't responding if you click on it too many times during startup. Click "Wait for the program to respond" or just restart
- Hosting a local server crashes the game. No idea how to fix this one, it's been happening since TF2's 64 bit update
