Hardware Xiaomi 14T Pro Review

As a pricier mid-ranger with a high-end build, the Xiaomi 14T Pro offers a respectable package as a daily driver but feels somewhat wanting when emulating some gaming systems.

After launching its flagship 14 Series earlier this year, which includes the excellent camera-phone 14 Ultra, Xiaomi is now debuting its more affordable, mid-range 14T Series. As usual with the company, there are different models within this line and this review will focus on the Xiaomi 14T Pro, which is the higher-end model of this mid-range line.

Xiaomi 14T Pro contents and specs

The regular Xiaomi 14T comes with two storage variants, starting from EUR 649, while the Xiaomi 14T Pro comes with three storage variants, starting from EUR 799. The 14T Pro model under review is the 12gb+1TB one and comes with the following items out of the box:

Specs of the Xiaomi 14T Pro are as follows:

A mid-ranger phone with quality hardware

Save for pricey foldable phones, most smartphones bear the similar black slab look. What mostly differentiates them is the back panel; and the Xiaomi 14T Pro has one of the most attractive back panels I've seen on a smartphone. The one on the Titan Blue model under review packs a metallic, bluish hue that makes it stand out while looking classy.

The phone owes this classiness to the high quality aluminum alloy frame that makes it durable while being visually attractive. The phone is also rated IP68 for dust and water resistance which adds some peace of mind to using the phone as a daily driver.

Indeed, the Xiaomi 14T Pro is well suited to serve as a daily driver. It packs an attractive hardware and is comfortable to hold and operate. Xiaomi even includes a bumper for added protection.

Surprisingly, there is no charging brick included in the package, even if the 14T Pro supports Xiaomi's excellent and lightning-fast 120W HyperCharge. This is the first time that I encounter this issue with a Xiaomi phone and I hope this does not become a trend. The 120W charging brick isn't as common to find as other chargers and it's a really useful feature of Xiaomi phones to fully charge them in under 20 minutes.

Xiaomi 14T Pro gaming performance

Powering the 14T Pro is the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ chip which gets rather high GeekBench 6 scores:

This chip allows the phone to be very competent when playing Android games. Titles such as Zenless Zone Zero, Pascal's Wager and Dead Cells run at a steady 60fps with no issues at high settings. The 1.67" AMOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate is well suited for gaming, delivering crisp and fluid animations.

Beyond Android games, the Xiaomi 14T Pro also handles emulation fairly well; although, not as flawlessly as I wish it did. For PS2 emulation, Ratchet & Clank runs steadily at 60fps at 2x resolution. Shadow of the Colossus does not fare as well at the same resolution as it experiences some dips in performance. Similarly, The Last Story on Wii runs at 25-30fps at 2x resolution and you might need to compromise with the resolution to achieve higher frame rates.

As expected, the performance of Switch games is title-dependent. Cuphead runs at around 50-60fps and Cult of the Lamb runs at 30fps. However, the New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is stuck on a black screen.

Of note, the 14T Pro variant with 1TB storage really makes it attractive for gaming purposes as it takes away low storage worries. You can download large game files as well as carry your retro games library with peace of mind, even if there is no expandable storage.

Xiaomi's latest contender as your daily driver

The Xiaomi 14T Pro handles gaming pretty well and it does so in a sleek, inconspicuous looking phone. This makes it well suited for everyday use. The 1.67" AMOLED display also makes browsing apps and watching videos enjoyable and the stereo speakers add to the immersion. On the photography side, this smartphone packs Leica optics and the camera array deliver quality shots under different lighting conditions.

One of the key features being advertised for the 14T Series is the AI support. The 14T Pro can make use of Google Gemini as well as Google's Circle to Search feature. There are also AI-powered image editing tools and while these aren't totally game changers personally, they are nice to have features, especially considering that some were restricted to only certain phone brands.

Overall, the 14T Pro delivers a fair gaming performance and it has the audiovisual hardware to enhance that experience while it easily doubles as a daily-driver. The 5,000mAh battery also supports extended gaming period which is complemented by the lightning-fast 120W charging. However, such a charger is itself missing from the base package and this is a downer, especially considering the selling price. It's worth considering if you're looking for a decent mid-ranger phone with plenty of storage capacity.
