While gamers complained about PS5 shortages at launch, tech fans often think a product is only successful if it's sold out and resold at high prices.

This isn't true. If a company makes enough stock to meet demand, you should be able to easily buy what you want in stores.

That's how it is with the PS5 Pro now, which you can find at most stores worldwide. (Let's not talk about its hard-to-find disc drive add-on.)

This means resellers are losing money on the console, which is good news for everyone. VGC looked into it and found that globally, the upgraded system is selling for about retail price on reseller sites. Some resellers are even selling it for less, trying to sell quickly but losing money.

All this makes it seem like the PS5 Pro might not be doing well. But according to chief Hiroki Totoki, pre-orders are better than for the PS4 Pro, likely meeting Sony's expectations.

"It's a high-end product for core customers, so we didn't plan for big sales to start," he said about the $700/£700 price in a Nikkei interview behind a paywall, translated from Japanese. "I think pre-orders are a bit stronger than the PS4 Pro's at the same time, so I don't think [the price] is hurting our sales plan."
