Indie After some delays, accidental detective game Paper Perjury launches next week

Delays in the game industry are a dime a dozen, and the indie rookie detective game Paper Perjury is no different. It was planned for an October 2024 release, which was bumped to a November launch date and then to a December launch window. Hopefully, the announced December date will come to fruition. Unfortunately, it does appear Mac support has been dropped. Prior press releases have all mentioned the game, releasing via Steam, has Mac support — but today's announcement didn't mention it at all, just PC and Linux. Bummer.

Before I describe the game, everyone has to know its most important feature: there is a cat, and it can (and should!) be befriended.

In Paper Perjury, Justina is hired for a simple clerk job at the local police department — but it turns out to be anything but. On her first day, she uncovers a potential clue for an ongoing investigation. When her clue is confirmed as true, she begins investigating crime scenes and questioning witnesses/potential suspects. She works with two eccentric detectives to find the secrets hidden in the paper trails.

The mysteries at hand are grounded in themes surrounding the gentrification of an ever-growing city.

Here is the last release date trailer, from when Paper Perjury was delayed from October until November:

Paper Perjury is heavily inspired by classic detective visual novels, such as Ace Attorney. Find links between evidence and witness statements to deduce the case's whodunnit. The game's script is comprised of more than 120,000 words across five cases. The game's colourful characters are animated, handcrafted pixel art.

Developed and published by Paper Cat Games, Paper Perjury will be released for PC/Linux via Steam on December 9.
