As some games now last for decades, developers are increasingly turning back the clock to earlier, supposedly better versions. This trend saw huge success with World of Warcraft Classic, Fortnite OG, and Apex Legends' Season 23. Unsurprisingly, Blizzard has now tapped into nostalgia for Overwatch 2; Overwatch: Classic launches today, November 12th, as a free event running until December 2nd on PS5.
In a blog post, Blizzard explained that Overwatch: Classic will "showcase heroes and balance from popular moments in the game's history, from the fast-paced 2017 Moth Meta to the triple-tank, triple-support 'Goats' style". It brings back the original 6v6, 1.0 version from May 2016, "including many long-gone abilities and all the chaotic gameplay from that era".
