An unusual looking week is greeting players with the latest set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, as road cars dominate the selection and rally makes a return.

Having made its debut in the 1.48 update a couple of weeks back, Volvo makes a first appearance in the Daily Races with a turn in Race A. You'll need the V40 R-Design for this one-make race, which you can of course borrow for the event if you don't feel like splashing out the 40,000cr required.

That will also head off the necessity of buying Dirt Tires too, as the race takes us to the Colorado Springs offroad circuit. It's a four-lap race around this bumpy dirt course — and do watch out for the particularly savage humps either side of the fast, uphill section — for the front-drive Volvos.

As usual the race doesn't affect your Driver Rating, no matter how well or badly you do, but Sportsmanship Rating updates are still active. This seems odd, given the nature of the course and the near-inevitability of contact, so if you value your SR it may be worth looking elsewhere this week.

Additionally there's the standard Race A "False Start Check" on the grid. You'll need to hold the car on the brakes or handbrake from when the final start light illuminates and until they all go out to start the race. Any movement forward in this period results in a short, on-the-spot loss of power for a few moments — which could have consequences as the grid behind you accelerates.

Race C is also a road car event this week, as a sibling rivalry is played out over seven laps of the Autopolis International Racing Course track.

You'll need either of the second generation "Toyobaru" twins — the Subaru BRZ S '21 or Toyota GR86 '21 — for this event which should be a straightforward sprint. That's because the cars will be using Sports Hard tires and the tire degradation and fuel consumption rates are both set at the standard 1x value.

Unusually for a Race C there's no mandatory pit stop requirement, and start is set as a Grid Start with False Start Check just as it is in Race A. There's no access to vehicle settings either, so this one's a straight blast.

That leaves Race B for the racing car enthusiasts, although this too is a sprint race as usual. It's a five-lap run around the Laguna Seca circuit for the Gr.4 vehicles.

For the most part this looks like being a one-make event, as at time of writing 80% of the global top 100 practice times — including the entire top ten — use the Genesis G70 Gr.4. Of course that doesn't mean other cars have no chance, but in all likelihood you'll need to us the G70 if you want to finish well.

Whichever car you opt for, it'll need to be on Racing Hard tires. As we've seen in recent events for race cars, there's the mildest tuning available by way of brake balance. All other settings remain locked.

In order to access the Daily Races, you'll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 ("Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade") in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.

With GT7's Daily Races updating every Monday across the game's life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, June 24.
