A demo for "Mega Splatterhouse," a fan-made port of the classic arcade game Splatterhouse for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, has been released just in time for Halloween. This project is being developed by Chris O @ Monster Bath Games Inc. and is available for download on itch.io.

Key points about the Mega Splatterhouse demo:

1. It's a work in progress, aiming to bring the original arcade hit to the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis.
2. The demo includes two playable levels.
3. It's designed for NTSC systems running at 60Hz, though it will work on PAL systems with some timing and screen size issues.
4. The game follows the original Splatterhouse storyline, where Rick, controlled by the player, must rescue his girlfriend from the monster-infested West Mansion.
5. The developers have made some adjustments to showcase the Genesis capabilities, such as adding parallax scrolling.

The demo is free to download, and players can use it with emulators (BlastEm is recommended) or on original hardware with an EverDrive or compatible device. The developers emphasize that this is a fan creation and not affiliated with Bandai Namco, who owns the rights to Splatterhouse.

This Halloween release allows fans of retro horror games to experience a modernized version of the classic Splatterhouse on Sega's 16-bit console, blending nostalgia with updated gameplay elements.
