Kyoday ported Among Giants' hiking RPG Albatroz to consoles. They didn't use PSSR for that game, but they're using it in their next project. Ivaylo Koralsky, co-founder and co-CEO, told GamingBolt, "We didn't use PSSR for Albatroz because we were short on time, and the game already looks sharp on PS5 Pro.
"But for our next project with a PS5 Pro update, we're using PSSR. We're also adding ray-traced lighting, reflections, and shadows, aiming for 60FPS in one quality mode. PSSR upscales better than FSR and TSR at lower resolutions, letting us add modern graphics while keeping good performance."
The PS5 Pro allows for other visual upgrades too. Koralsky compared PSSR to Nvidia DLSS 3. "This project also has Virtual Shadow Maps for much better shadows, which the base PS5 can't do. PSSR's quality is closer to DLSS3 than FSR2. It handles moving plants and color changes much better. Since it's AI-based, it will keep improving and likely be important for the future PS6."
The next console generation is still far off, but it'll be cool to see how big games use the PS5 Pro.
