The Steam Deck OLED – an upgraded version of the original Steam Deck – is getting a new Limited Edition that might show fingerprints more easily. Following the see-through model that was only sold in North America last year, the Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White offers a frosty look and, for those outside North America, a chance to actually buy one. It goes on sale November 18th in all countries where the Steam Deck is currently available.
The white-and-gray redesign will cost £599 / $679 / €719, slightly more than the 1TB Steam Deck OLED it matches in features. But you'd get the unique ability to hide your Deck from thieves by blending it with a pile of copy paper, or to match it better with your boat-ready summer pants. It also comes with a white carrying case.
Still, I probably won't get this one. Besides being happy with my regular, dark-colored Steam Deck OLED, I'd always worry about marks, scratches, and chocolate stains ruining that clean look. But if you think all gadgets should look like iPods, it's available, though not for long. Limited really means limited here, and once the first batch sells out, it's gone for good. Be ready at 3pm PST / 11pm GMT on the 18th to buy one when they launch.
If you miss out, remember that a successful Limited Edition White could lead to more colorful Steam Deck versions later. "We're interested in seeing the response, and will use what we learn to guide future decisions about possible new color options," said Valve's communications head Kaci Aitchison Boyle in a statement.
The statement also confirmed that Valve is working on "future plans for Steam Deck and other hardware," though you can likely expect new colors for current models before a full Steam Deck 2. That's still a while away, according to Valve's engineers, who want to "wait for a big jump" in computing power before making a whole new handheld.
