Ready at Dawn, the studio best known to PlayStation fans for the divisive PS4 exclusive The Order: 1886, will be closed by Meta effective immediately. Android Central reports the closure is related to ensuring Reality Labs can stay within its budgetary constraints and make a "better long-term impact" in VR development, not to save money. The dev was bought by Meta in 2020 and has created games for Meta Quest headsets since.

Put out in February 2015, The Order: 1886 is what put Ready at Dawn on the map for PlayStation fans, but the team also worked on the PSP's God of War entries Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. It also made handheld spin-off Daxter, ported Okami to Nintendo Wii, and created a failed multiplayer game in Deformers. Before it was announced Meta had picked up the studio, PlayStation fans would consistently earmark the California developer as one Sony should acquire for PSVR development and to continue The Order: 1886 story.

How do you feel about the closure? Pour one out for Ready at Dawn in the comments below.
