Gaming Are You Sick of Soulslike Games?

FromSoftware's got a lot to answer for. Through its increasingly successful crafting of dark fantasy action games, the Japanese developer has spawned an entire subgenre that most people refer to as 'Soulslike'. Typically, Soulslike titles adopt specific elements introduced through Demon's Souls and its descendants, ranging from high levels of difficulty and checkpoints that respawn enemies, to combat that greatly rewards patience and knowledge of your opponent's attack patterns.

The thing is, we can't seem to go a single week without a new Soulslike being announced or released. Because it's the trend and because games like Elden Ring have been such colossal hits, it feels like we can't get away from turning every other action title into a Soulslike. And so with that in mind, the question we want to ask is: are you sick and tired of there being so many Soulslikes?

Just to help illustrate our perspective, here's a very quick list of blatant Soulslikes off the top of our heads: Lords of the Fallen, Lies of P, Code Vein, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, The Surge, Mortal Shell, Thymesia, Salt and Sanctuary, Death's Gambit — and that's just to name a handful.

Oh, and then you've got a seemingly endless supply of Soulslikes in the works at various South Korean and Chinese studios. Black Myth: Wukong, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, The First Berserker: Khazan... we could be here all day!
