However, with Ubisoft seemingly having no plans for a remake anytime soon, fans have had to make-do with the remastered versions of the Ezio trilogy which was released as a collection in 2016.
While Assassin's Creed The Ezio Collection was an improvement on the 2009 title, it unfortunately didn't offer a massive improvement when it came to graphics and performance.
Thankfully, one modder over on Nexus Mods is here to save the day by offering a stunning ReShade which makes Assassin's Creed 2 as beautiful as more recent entries such as Assassin's Creed Unity.
Created by Boczekek, Unity-like ReShade is a free-to-download preset that offers a shader reminiscent of the colors and atmosphere found in 2014's Assassin's Creed Unity.
To give us an idea of what we can expect, the modder has included some comparison screenshots and it is clear that the preset removes the oversaturated and sharpened look of AC2 and replaced it with much-smoother looking graphics.
Additionally, the colors are a bit more muted but works well in the overall environment of a Renaissance Italy.
The settings can be adjusted to your liking but the modder recommends setting the game's brightness to six and turning post-process effects off for the best results.
In related news, one Ezio fan took the time to work out the assassin's kill count throughout the events of Assassin's Creed 2 and it is safe to confirm that he was one scary guy. He's lucky we love him enough, especially enough to warrant a whole trilogy dedicated to him.
With many Assassin's Creed titles in the works including November's Assassin's Creed Shadows, will anybody beat Ezio? It remains to be seen.
