Dynasty Warriors needs a return to form after the dismal Dynasty Warriors 9, and to be fair to Koei Tecmo and developer Omega Force, it's starting to look like Dynasty Warriors: Origins could be a genuine banger.
Now, while some longtime fans have expressed concern over the game's decision to move away from the traditional Dynasty Warriors format, it's difficult to deny the title's potential — especially after watching this largely fantastic-looking gameplay demonstration, fresh from Tokyo Game Show.
For starters, the sheer amount of stuff happening on screen is nuts — and watching literally hundreds of fully rendered soldiers get obliterated by a massive musou attack really is something to behold. This new instalment — exclusive to current-gen machines — seems to be delivering in terms of spectacle.
But the combat system seems super promising as well. The nameless protagonist of capable of wielding a number of different weapons, dramatically altering his fighting style. You'll spend much of your time mowing down grunts (thousands of grunts), but combat takes a noticeable turn when you're up against bigshot officers.
Against famous foes, you can lock into a kind of one-on-one system that emphasizes dodges, parries, and cool combos. It looks fast, fluid, and fun, and it should help the more important clashes stand out from the culling of generic troops.
