As the years passed, Ubisoft would release plenty of Far Cry sequels and spin-offs and despite its formula not mixing it up too much in recent years, fans still love to cause all sorts of mayhem in its sandbox of chaos.
"A tropical paradise seethes with hidden evil in Far Cry, a cunningly detailed action shooter that pushes the boundaries of combat to shocking new levels," reads the synopsis of the game. "Freelance mariner Jack Carver is cursing the day he ever came to this island."
The original Far Cry is now two decades old, and if you're a big fan of the game, then you might have seen all that it has to offer but if you're after a fresh lick of paint and gameplay improvements on the OG, then you'll want to check out this free mod available to download via moddb.com.
Created by modder HCFR, 'Far Cry Advanced Version' is a remaster of the 2004 retro classic and not only does it come with improved visuals but also widescreen and FOV support, improved gameplay mechanics, multiplayer and much more.
In particular, its multiplayer mode sounds like it's a lot of fun with the addition of co-op multiplayer and a battle royale, the modder has even taken measures to reduce the risk of encountering cheaters.
The modder does clarify that this fanmade remaster is still in its alpha phase, so some bugs are expected, so please keep that in mind.
Sadly, as with the nature of most mods, 'Far Cry Advanced Version' is only available on PC but hopefully, it won't be too taxing on most modern system specifications. However, you can play an official remaster with Far Cry Classic available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
