GeForce Now, Nvidia's cloud gaming service, is introducing a significant change to its subscription model. Starting in 2025, the service will implement a 100-hour monthly playtime limit for subscribers to its Performance (formerly Priority) and Ultimate tiers.
Key points of the announcement:
1. The 100-hour monthly limit will begin at the start of 2025 for new subscribers.
2. Existing members and those who sign up before December 31, 2024, will retain unlimited playtime until January 2026.
3. Nvidia claims this limit will accommodate 94% of current users' playtime habits.
4. Users can purchase additional hours if they exceed the limit:
- Performance tier: $2.99 for 15 extra hours
- Ultimate tier: $5.99 for 15 extra hours
5. Up to 15 unused hours will automatically roll over to the next month.
Nvidia states this change aims to maintain service quality, speed, and shorter queue times for subscribers. They're also introducing some improvements:
- The Priority tier is being renamed to Performance and will now offer streaming at up to 1440p resolution (up from 1080p).
- Both Performance and Ultimate tiers will support ultrawide resolutions and allow saving in-game graphics settings across streaming sessions.
For loyal members, Nvidia is offering a grace period. Active paid members as of December 31, 2024, will continue to have unlimited playtime throughout 2025, as long as their account remains uninterrupted and in good standing.
This change represents a significant shift in GeForce Now's service model, potentially affecting heavy users of the platform while aiming to optimize the experience for the majority of subscribers.
