Naturally harking back to the classic Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, Volume 8's theme is Cops vs Racers and includes a brand-new "Cop Career".
Hot Pursuit mode is available in Lakeshore Online and sees four-player teams facing off as either cops or racers. It takes place over two rounds, so each team gets to play in each role. Of course the goal as a racer is to get to the finish without succumbing to the attentions of the cops, who'll do all they can to take you down.
That's enhanced by a variety of cop technology that you can unlock, from basic spike stripes to battering rams and an EMP. There's also nine unique custom cars (five of which are free to all players) with designs "inspired by" police forces from around the world that unlock as you rank up in the Cop Career.
Of course this lot can be unlocked through the Speed Pass and Premium Speed Pass — the latter an add-on item for $/€9.99 (or $/€8.99 for EA Play members) with 30 additional levels of unlockable items in addition to the 45-level Speed Pass.
Two new cars are also added, with the Lotus Evija available for all players through the Speed Pass along with a special Criterion Edition custom. However, if you want the Porsche 959 S and its unique customs — including an SCPD car and an Undercover Cop edition — you'll need to splash out on the Premium Speed Pass.
