With Halo fans agreeing that nothing quite beats the originals, a recent rumor has hinted at an upcoming remake which would bring the FPS titles to the PlayStation 5.

Released back in 2001 by Bungie, Halo: Combat Evolved marked the start of a long-running FPS series which was soon followed by five sequels as well as multiple spin offs.

With the franchise being handed over to 343 Industries in 2010, both Halo 4 and Halo Infinite were not as successful as the original Bungie trilogy so it is no wonder that fans have been calling out for a remake over recent years.

Luckily, their cries may have been answered as one insider has revealed that a remake for Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 and Halo 3 is currently in "the early stages of development". Not only that but the remake will be made using Unreal Engine 5 and will be released for the PlayStation 5.

"What I have learnt about the CE project: it's very early stages in development, it's a proof of concept for Halo on Unreal 5, it is not a remaster but a remake," the insider's Tweet read. "So they will be adding things but trying to stay faithful, and building on cut content/missions."

This comes after some fans speculated over a potential PlayStation port for the Halo: The Master Chief Collection which was released in 2014 for Xbox.

However, the insider reveals that 343 Industries decided to go down the trilogy remake route instead as "it would have a higher potential for revenue".

The Halo remake trilogy will combine all three games and "will follow the general story but not stick exactly to the end points of each campaign".

As the remake is still in early development and is a massive undertaking, it may be a while until we see it. However, it is still an exciting time for fans of the original Halo titles.
