The sales figures for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door on the Nintendo Switch have already surpassed those of the original GameCube release. As of September 2024, the Switch version has sold 1.94 million units, exceeding the GameCube original's lifetime sales of 1.91 million.
While the Switch version's sales have slowed in the most recent quarter, it was still able to outsell the GameCube release in just 4 months on the market. This is likely due to the Switch's much larger install base compared to the GameCube.
However, the Switch version is still a long way off the sales figures of some other entries in the Paper Mario series, such as Sticker Star (2.49 million), Origami King (3.47 million), and Super Paper Mario (over 4 million). So while it has outperformed the original GameCube game, it has not yet reached the heights of the best-selling Paper Mario titles.
