Nintendo is going after the development team of an emulator. A legal case was filed by Nintendo yesterday, alleging that the Nintendo Switch emulator, Yuzu, has caused damages to the company by allowing for its games to be played illegally before release. The suit also claims that the company behind the emulator, Tropic Haze LLC, makes a profit by facilitating piracy, noting that during the leak of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Yuzu's Patreon saw a large increase in users. Nintendo's legal team makes a case that Tropic Haze profits from and popularizes video game piracy. In the legal document, Nintendo refers to an emulator as, "a piece of software that allows users to unlawfully play pirated video games". They also...
Final Fantasy 7 Remake's narrative is a big deal. It takes the framework of a beloved classic and seeks to reimagine it, even if it means completely transforming its events and characters into something unknowable. But for the most part, with the exception of its last act and a fate defying army of whispers that pursue the ensemble cast, it's relatively faithful. Producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi told me in a recent interview that it was always the plan to deviate from the established canon, but in the first game, they waited until the very end to pull the rug out from beneath us. There are hints of deviation, such as a much earlier appearance of Sephiroth as he's folded into the main narrative, and the army of...
What's next for the world of Pokemon? A new Pokemon Presents livestream aimed to answer all of your burning questions today, as The Pokemon Company promised "exciting" news when it first teased this event. This short but informative broadcast was heavily focused on current Pokemon projects, as well as the various mobile games that have been released over the last couple of years. Pokemon Masters EX, Pokemon Sleep, and Pokemon Unite were all in the spotlight, but one of the biggest announcements here was the reveal of Pokemon: Trading Card Game Pocket. Out later in 2024, this will be a more streamlined approach to the mega-popular trading card game, and will be a collaborative effort between Creatures Inc, DeNA, and The Pokemon Company...
A brand new Pokemon Presents starts off today, celebrating the anniversary of the original release of Pokemon Red and Green in Japan. That said, let's dive right off into the presentation and see what the Poke Co. has in store. New Tera Raid battles are unveiled, featuring a mighty Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise, each one being one week apart starting tomorrow with Venusaur. Pokemon Go gets a collaboration with the new Pokemon Horizon series, with a Pikachu wearing Cap's hat and Volt Tackle as a move. New Pokemon from Gen 9 will also debut in the game, as well as characters Lico and Roy. Pokemon Sleep is getting Raikou on March, with Entei and Suicune coming up later. Pokemon Masters celebrates 4 and a half years, and Geeta &...
The GBA homebrew scene has been growing steadily over the years, with one of the most recent homebrew projects for the system allowing for such technological wonders such as running Tomb Rainder on the 32-bit handheld with the help of the open source engine OpenLara. All of this is thanks to the effort put together by the GBA homebrew devs, being lead by the GameBoy Development community over at gbdev.io, where they share a vast variety of libraries and documentation about the GameBoy family of handhelds, put together over the decades to allow for homebrew developers and romhackers alike to create new and fascinating projects for the beloved Nintendo handheld. One such collection of libraries is the GBA Link Connection, which allows...
The Nintendo 3DS is already past its prime, both in life-cycle and its homebrew scene, and while its homebrew scene still continues to be strong to this day, many people have moved away from it and are instead focusing on the Nintendo Switch. While the 3DS did get its fair share of emulators from previous Nintendo consoles, even up to a Nintendo 64 emulator with DaedalusX64-3DS, one specific console from Nintendo's history of failures is the Virtual Boy, and given the 3DS feature of playing games in actual 3D, it was a lost opportunity for Nintendo not to capitalize on the success of the 3DS' 3D technology to revive the Virtual Boy in its full 3D glory, without the headaches of the actual red-lenses visor that the original Virtual Boy...
The Tomb Raider 1-3 Remaster has been relatively well-received. Tomb Raider fans are glad to finally have something go their way after years in the wilderness, but as well as a reminder of how ahead of her time Lara was, the pendulum has swung both ways - it's also a reminder of how dated these games really are. The tank controls aren't intuitive, and the modern controls are janky in a game built for tanking. But now we've moved on to discussing what comes next for Tomb Raider. The answer should be the new 'unified' game that ties together the Legend trilogy and the Survivor trilogy, but as ever with Lara Croft in the modern era, it's a swan dive forward and a backflip back. I wrote that this new design was starting the era off on the...
Nintendo is reportedly aiming to launch Switch 2 in March 2025. While the company still hasn't officially announced its next system, apparently the hardware was internally delayed from this year to next to avoid any supply issues. As spotted by VGC, Nikkei has a new report detailing that Nintendo not only wants to beef up the launch lineup, but also the amount of Switch 2 systems initially available. Earlier this month, widespread rumblings suggested Switch 2 was pushed back to early 2025. No specific month was mentioned at the time, but it was noted that the company was looking to ensure the next system had a healthy slate of games ready to go. This timeline shift led to quite a significant stock drop for Nintendo. Another detail...
Grand Theft Auto 6 has to come out with a gameplay trailer at some point, and when it does, some consequences may be inevitable. There's no questioning just how big of a game Grand Theft Auto 6 is going to be, even with so much time to go before its release. It's only natural that any new information about the game is going to be quickly snapped up by fans and prospective players. This is especially true for gameplay, which will show how much the series has evolved. However, Rockstar should be prepared for the inevitable deluge of attention. The reaction to Grand Theft Auto 6's first trailer made it clear what kind of hype has built up surrounding the game. After not seeing another installment aside from remakes since 2013, Grand Theft...
After two incredibly busy months, March is a more subdued affair when it comes to new releases. That doesn't mean that there aren't some big games to get excited for, but in comparison to February and its main-event debuts--like the rare leap-year release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on February 29--March provides some welcome breathing space. Some of the highlights this month include WWE 2K24, a game that has been overshadowed by recent controversies at the home of powerslams and RKOs hailing from outta nowhere. This year's Wrestlemania Showcase looks like a fun trip down memory lane, and with Wrestlemania 40 looking to be one of the biggest live events in WWE history, it'll be fascinating to explore the matches responsible for defining...
When you have a movie franchise, you have to keep it fresh, right? Raise the bar to another level. And sometimes, that level is taking the franchise to space. Fast & Furious did it. Transformers did it. Air Bud should have done it (Space Buddies exist, but that was puppies, not Bud). But regardless of which movies make the leap to outer space, nobody does it quite as hilariously as the horror genre. It's harder for a horror movie franchise, well-established on Earth, to find a reason to jump into space. Horror movies that already take place in space, like Event Horizon, make sense to take place up there--that's the whole point of the movie. However, what happens when you take familiar killer characters and blast them into the great...
Update v3.2 for Refined Gold Overhaul, Tavern Trawl, is out and piping hot! This is a smaller update than v3.1, but it does make some important revisions to fishing encounters and filling your national dex. Fishing encounters have been revamped and cleaned up, making encounters both more consistent across areas as well as properly taking into account night fishing as a mechanic. Before certain Pokemon added to fishing tables were simply unavailable at night when they were intended to be found all day - this update fixes that! Certain Hoenn/Sinnoh Radio Encounters are also revised to make distribution more cohesive, along with some extra special Safari Zone buffs to integrate it into the player's journey without being a total pain. In...

Emulation-Station is a frontend available on various platforms, which acts as an organized launcher for all your games. Most notably, it's used as a low-power frontend for Raspberry Pi emulation boxes, or as one of the primary ways to access retro game backups on the Steam Deck and other handheld devices. As of now, Emulation-Station is usable on more than just computers, as the developers have added Android to its list of available platforms. Emulation-Station DE has been released onto the Amazon Appstore, with plans for a Google Play release eventually, though according to the developers, Google has not allowed the app onto the store thus far. The app costs $5.39 USD, and once purchased, allows you to organize, theme, and display...
Good news for PlayStation VR 2 owners. Sony, in an update on their PlayStation Blog, have confirmed that they are working on PC VR support for the headset, which is officially only currently supported on the PlayStation 5 console. In the press update, they mention that testing is currently ongoing and that they hope to offer the functionality at some point this year. However, details are vague and we have no details on how the connection will be made, whether it be a direct tether to a compatible VR capable PC or a Quest-like solution with an app like Steam Link perhaps on its way to the PlayStation Store. While homebrew efforts have been made to get the PSVR2 working on PC, various hurdles meant that additional hardware was...
