Back in January, Microsoft worked on mitigating, disrupting and investigating the attack, which according to Microsoft's investigations, led to the threat actor being Midnight Blizzard, a Russian state-sponsor actor that also goes by the name of NOBELIUM. According to their initial blog post, the way in which the attackers gained access to Microsoft's systems was through a password spray attack, then gaining access to a portion of corporate Microsoft email accounts, but back then they assessed that the attack didn't show evidence of any stolen assets or data, but...

Yet another emulator bites the dust, in the aftermath of the Tropic Haze/Yuzu vs. Nintendo case. Pizza Boy, a $5.49 paid app on the Google Play Store, has been taken down and is no longer available for purchase. Developer Davide made an announcement post explaining that he has permanently removed his app from the Play Store, citing the reasoning as, "I have chosen to prioritize my family over the development of my apps." With the implication that he has not been forced to delist his emulator, but has chosen to do so as a precaution after other emulator developers have been affected. Currently, several other paid GBA/GBC emulators are still available on the Play Store, including John GBA, My Boy!, and Nostalgia.GBA. Source

After a rough week, the emulation and homebrew scene continues to suffer major losses. As of today, homebrew developer Steveice10's GitHub repository has been deleted. A known quantity in the 3DS homebrew scene, Steveice10 created important tools for the system such as a modified sysupdater, a port of GBC emulator GameYob to the 3DS, and most importantly, FBI title manager, which allows users to install .CIA format 3DS titles and homebrew. FBI has not been updated since 2020, and was considered feature-complete, with its source code available and the project archived, but it was suddenly removed from GitHub today, along with all of his other projects. The exact reasoning behind the removal isn't known, though the timing implies it may...

If you have been in the gaming community for a while, you most likely have heard of the term "emulation", which can be best described as recreating or imitating, in this case, actual gaming hardware--consoles, computers, or handhelds--into other devices. During the 1990s, computers were reaching a technological standpoint in which it was becoming feasible to replicate the behaviour of early or older consoles and hardware, with one of the earliest emulators documented being a Famicom emulator having a timestamp of December 1990. However, as it's always the case when it comes to emulation, it goes hand in hand with the legalities surrounding the scene, with many citing that it's just another instance to allow piracy of any given...

Exophase, the developer of the DraStic Nintendo DS emulator, has made a statement regarding the future of the emulator. DraStic has been a popular closed-source DS emulator on Android that has been available for many years. However, following the fallout from both Yuzu and Citra emulator's situations, Exophase has decided to take DraStic off of the Google Play Store. Before the app gets delisted, Exophase has made DraStic free to download, when it had previously cost $4.99 to buy. They plan on eventually releasing the source code for the emulator as well. You can grab...

Quietly following on the heels of the injunction ruling against Yuzu emulator that resulted in its removal and ceased development, popular Nintendo 3DS emulator Citra is following suit. Yuzu's parent company, Tropic Haze LLC, is also the owner of the development team for Citra 3DS emulator, and because of the recent ruling, Citra has also met the same fate. As of current writing, Citra has been removed from download on its official website, and the Citra GitHub repository has been taken down as well. An official statement from Bunnei, a representative for both Citra and Yuzu, was posted on the Discord channel for Yuzu, saying that they never intended to allow piracy to impact Nintendo, and that playing games on "unauthorized hardware"...
Just last week, on Tuesday, February 26th, 2024, news broke out about the Yuzu emulator team being sued by none other than Nintendo themselves, with Nintendo claiming that the emulator apparently allowed users to play certain games early (due to street dates being broken) and also allowing piracy of the current Nintendo Switch system. Today, in a rather surprisingly quick manner, it seems like Tropic Haze LLC., the company behind the Yuzu team, has reached a settlement with Nintendo in regards to the lawsuit. According to a recent official document uploaded just a few minutes ago , Tropic Haze will pay up 2.4 million USD in favour to Nintendo, with both parties agreeing in the settlement and its amount. UPDATE: According to the...
