After about a year and a half on the market, Nexon has announced the impending closure of KartRider: Drift on console. The free-to-play racer came to Xbox back in March 2023, and now the team plans to keep a PC edition live in Korea and Taiwan, while shutting down all other versions of the title.
For now, we don't have a specific closure date for KartRider: Drift on Xbox, but Nexon says the 'Global' version of the game "will remain live until early next year" when it's expect to go offline for good.
"This separated service will remain live until early next year, and you can continue to play until that time. We will follow up with a separate announcement with more details in the near future."
Furthermore, the team says that an upcoming August update "is currently planned to be the final one for Console, Mobile, and Global players", so it sounds like we'll have roughly six months-or-so from that last update to continue enjoying KartRider: Drift on Xbox.
Here's the blog post's closing message from director Jaeyun Cho:
"To all of the Racers who have been playing on Console and Mobile, as well as to all our Racers around the world who have been enjoying KartRider: Drift, we want to express our sincerest apology yet again.
And to the Racers in Korea and Taiwan who play on PC, we ask that you give us one more chance to win over your hearts. In order to make the best version of KartRider: Drift that can be enjoyed by all, this Dev Team will never stop putting forth our best effort."
