When it comes to video game racing franchises, very few have been around longer than Need for Speed from publisher Electronic Arts.

The Need for Speed series made its debut in 1994 on PC and PlayStation. Over the years, the series has evolved massively improving its visuals, gameplay and content on each new console generation with the latest release being Need for Speed Unbound for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2022.

Arguably, the most popular entries in the Need for Speed series are Underground, Most Wanted and Hot Pursuit. However, there was one entry that has perhaps been forgotten in time and that's the fourth release in the series, Need for Speed: High Stakes which was released in 1999.

Typically, we've seen fantastic fan-made remakes for the likes of Need for Speed: Underground and Most Wanted, but offering something a little different, indie developer QuantumRez has remade the aforementioned High Stakes powered by Unreal Engine 5.

Judging by QuantumRez's YouTube channel, the Need for Speed: High Stakes remake has been in development for the best part of a year and by the looks of it, the hard work is paying off.

The most recent video uploaded features the Snowy Ridge track, which is claimed to be a like-for-like recreation of the original track and all models, textures and sound effects have been made from scratch and not taken from the original game.

"Finally someone paying respects to High Stakes, this 3D is so lovely," said nfsiiihp in the comments section of the YouTube video. "Can't wait to see the finished version," exclaimed Roadrage1588.

Sadly, it's unlikely that this fan-made remake of Need for Speed: High Stakes will be made public to avoid angering the Electronic Arts lawyers. That being said, it's nice to see that a forgotten classic from this beloved series is still getting some love after all these years.
