Getting into Vita hacking can be somewhat troublesome and confusing. I made this thread to collect information and put it in one place, therefore making it easier for everyone to find the help they need! I'm personally checking the Vita Hacking forum daily and I will try to answer every question asked in this thread. However, please check the FAQ section in this thread first, as the answer you are searching for may be there!

Links to other guides and files are found in the bottom of this post!

HENkaku does not currently work on anything other than 3.60 at the moment. Do NOT update to 3.61/3.63/3.65 if you want to keep HENkaku!

New/confused Vita owners should check this guide on what they can do with their Vita/PSTV: http://hackinformer.com/PlayStationGuide/PSV/DEVICE_PSVITA.html

August 1st, 2017:

Henkaku Enso has now been released which gives you permanent CFW for your Vita regardless if you turn your Vita off. Download the VPK from https://enso.henkaku.xyz/ and put it on your vita. Install it using MolecularShell and then open the new Enso Application on your home screen. Follow the instructions and try rebooting your Vita when you are done. If you see the Enso Logo instead of the Playstation Logo while booting you are all set!

Older News:

May 30th, 2017:

Henkaku has been updated to version 10.

Changelog:

    • Moved files to ur0:tai, can run without memory card on original Vitas now
    • If molecularShell is removed manually, will not attempt to reinstall by default
    • Support loading plugins from ur0:tai/config.txt if ux0:tai/config.txt cannot be found
    • If you are using Ensō, you must redownload the installer and reinstall configuration in order to use the new path

Pinned news from May 12th, 2017:

Team Molecule is back teasing something called Henkaku Ensō for the 1-year anniversary of Henkaku (2017/07/29). Not much is yet known about it, but it seems to be a permanent hack for 3.60 that you don't have to reactivate Henkaku everytime you reboot your Vita. It MIGHT (we don't know this) also be a tease for an actual CFW or at least a door to make CFW happen. The official site can be found here: https://enso.henkaku.xyz/

Here is the teaser video:

May 26th, 2017:

Adrenaline V4.1 has been released!

- Fixed bug where holding R trigger while launching Adrenaline didn't open the recovery menu.
- Fixed msfs truncation bug that caused savedata corruption for Little Big Planet and maybe other games.

On a PS TV this will finally allow you to play your games in fullscreen.

Your exploit should now be updated and you just need to use molecularShell to enable PSN spoofing. Get to downloading those PSN games you missed out on before it's too late!

Instructions on how to install Adrenaline can be found in the link above.

November 2nd 2016:

HENKaku has been overhauled to taiHENkaku. It uses the same 3.60 exploit we are all used to, but gives us access to a CFW framework. This means that HENkaku can be ported to other firmwares if an exploit is found.

taiHEN gives you the opportunity to run game and kernel plugins everywhere.

taiHENkaku is currently in open beta and can be used by going to http://beta.henkaku.xyz/ on your 3.60 Vita. Please note that the beta has some issues as of right now. From Yifan Lu's blog:

"It is currently in an unstable state. Some features such as PSN spoofing do not currently work. I hope to resolve the issues in the upcoming days. Meanwhile, I hope that developers can start writing plugins immediately while I iron out the issues. Again, the beta is only recommended for developers making plugins and is of no benefit currently for regular users."

Other features include:

    • Loading compressed FSELFs are supported now
    • VitaShell is updated to 1.42 with a brand new HENkaku configuration menu that allows user configuration of PSN version spoofing. (Note at the time of writing, VitaShell has not been updated yet. I will push an update as soon as it is out.)
    • Unsafe homebrew is disabled by default This change means that some of your homebrew will not launch immediately. Before you panic, go into molecularShell, press Start, enter the HENkaku configuration menu and choose to enable unsafe homebrew. You also need to do this to use system and kernel plugins. More information on this change can be found here. (Note, this feature is disabled in the beta currently because the VitaShell configuration options is not out yet. It will be enabled as soon as that's done.)
In summary, this is what they are releasing. Source is Yifan Lu's blog:

If you want to read more about the update you can do so on Yifan Lu's blog here:
https://yifan.lu/2016/11/01/taihen-cfw-framework-for-ps-vita/

September 24th 2016:

The_FloW seems to have found a way into the PSP emulator while using HENkaku. More information can be found here:

http://wololo.net/2016/09/24/develo...s-psp-emulator-ps-vita-asks-psp-hackers-help/

September 13th 2016

HENkaku version 6 is now out of Beta and available for everyone on the usual henkaku.xyz.

More information here: http://wololo.net/2016/09/13/henkaku-r6-gpu-overclocking-beta/

September 12 2016:

HENkaku needs beta testers for Version 6. This beta has access to GPU overclocking. If you want to test it out, go to http://henkaku.stary2001.co.uk/ on your Vita.

More information here: http://wololo.net/2016/09/12/henkaku-release-6-adds-gpu-overclocking-video-beta-testers-needed/

September 6th 2016:

HENkaku has now been updated to version 5.

Features are:

  • Changed how PSN spoofing is done. This should fix problems a minority of users experience regarding game saves.
  • Removed update blocking features as a side effect of above.
  • Update to VitaShell 0.91. This is the last VitaShell update bundled into HENkaku. Please use VitaShell's built in network update feature to update VitaShell as a standalone component.
More information here: https://henkaku.xyz/changes/

August 30th 2016:

Vitamin, a tool for making game dumps (and now playable backups) has now been officially released by hacker TheFloW after a rocky leak 24 hours earlier, resulting in hackers leaving the scene. It's always sad to see people leave and I wish everyone involved in Vitamin good luck in their future endeavors. No matter what they decide to do next.

This now means that the community has the means to make and play backups of their PSVita games.

TheFloW has also released VitaShell 0.86 (https://github.com/TheOfficialFloW/VitaShell/releases/tag/0.86)

August 28th 2016:

Update 3 for HENkaku has been released. It features PSN spoofing and gives you access to PSN without updating. Please note that you are using this on your own risk and bans might be a thing while using it.

Other features include:

  • Safe homebrew support: Developers can optionally mark their homebrews as "safe" and it will not gain restricted API access. We highly recommend developers who are not using such features to update their packages as safe.
  • VitaShell 0.8: Read the release notes from The_FloW for the list of changes to VitaShell.
  • Version string: A callback to the PSP days where every hack would change the system version string. We do that too now (see the screenshot) so we can provide better support to our users.
  • Update blocking: In HENkaku mode, firmware updates using the official servers are blocked. That way you won't accidentally install 3.61 and it won't download in the background regardless of your settings.
More information at: https://yifan.lu/2016/08/27/henkaku-update/

July 31st 2016

HENkaku, a native hack for the Vita allowing for homebrews and other stuff has been released. Your PSVita/PSTV needs to be on 3.60 and you have to visit http://henkaku.xyz on your device to install the hack!

March 9th 2016

TheFloW has found a 3.57 ePSP Kernel exploit, but will hold off on releasing it for now. He will however release a custom PS1 Bubble trick that works on firmwares 3.00 to 3.52, release is soon:

January 20th 2016:

Qwikrazor's custom Bubbles still work on 3.57 as long as the bubble does not depend on a Kernel exploit.

General Update December 15th 2015:

First off: I would like to apologize for the lack of updates, I will try to follow the Vita scene more closely from now on.

Now here are the latest relevant updates in the thread:

1.
Thread has been updated to account for Rejuvenate. This is a native Vita hack which requires you to be on Firmware 3.51 or lower, it is only used for homebrews at the moment, no backups possible as of yet. It works by using exploits found in the PSM Dev Assistant, more information and how to install here: http://wololo.net/rejuvenate-ps-vita/

2. Qwikrazor has released an exploit for Mimana Iyar Chronicle, though this game can only be found on the US and JP PS Store. With it you can install TN-V11 or ARK-2 custom bubbles. (Thanks to @TehCupcakes for bringing this to my attention)

3. There has been a device announced called the Cobra Black Fin that is used to play Vita backups. There is a catch though: You need to authenticate the backup through an online server. More information about it can be found here: http://cobra-blackfin.com/

URGENT UPDATE DECEMBER 20TH 2015:

It's been recently announced that the Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops exploit will be exclusive to JP. US versions cannot be installed on the Vita and the EU version doesn't have the vulnerability. More details here: http://wololo.net/2015/12/20/ps-vit...es-vhbl-for-metal-gear-solid-exploit-jp-only/

Custom bubbles will probably come to EU soon though.

Update December 19th 2015:

EDIT: The exploitable game is Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops in JPN and Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops Plus everywhere else.

Japanese hacker 173210 has announced he will release an Vita ePSP hack for Christmas this year. According to this tweet it will be available for EU/US/JP. No one is left out this time! :)

Q: Is there a permanent solution for HENkaku?

A: Yes! You can now download the HENkaku Enso VPK from this page: https://enso.henkaku.xyz/

Install it using MolecularShell and then follow the instructions in the new Enso Application on your Homescreen. When you are done you should see that the Enso logo has replaced the Playstation Logo during boot. That's how you know that your Vita now has a Permanent Enso CFW.

Q: Is there a native Vita hack yet?

A: Yes! HENkaku has been released for firmware 3.60. Visit http://henkaku.xyz on your 3.60 PSVita/PSTV to install the hack.

If you are below 3.60 you can manually update your Vita using this guide: http://wololo.net/2016/08/09/manually-update-ps-vita-firmware-3-60/

You can find more information on HENkaku in the Vita Hacking FAQ further down this post!

Q: Can I play Vita backups with HENkaku?

A: Yes! If you are using HENkaku it is now possible to make backups of games on your Vita using Vitamin.

Q: Can I play PSP backups with HENkaku?

A: Yes! Adrenaline has now been released for HENkaku users, letting you use your Vita for the same things that a PSP can be used for!

General Vita & Hacking FAQ (Click the Spoiler Button)
Q: Where should I go for for new information about native Vita hacking?
A: http://yifan.lu/ and http://wololo.net/

Q: How to I manually update my Vita to 3.60?

A:
Follow this guide: http://wololo.net/2016/08/09/manually-update-ps-vita-firmware-3-60/

Q: Is there any alternative to the Vita memory card like an adapter or something?

A:
No, there are none at the moment. You have to buy official Vita Memory cards for your storage needs.

Q: What is the difference between a PSP-Mode hack and a native hack?

A: A PSP-mode hack is limited to the PSP-portion of the Vita. This means that you will only be able to use homebrews and backups made for the Playstation Portable. Native Vita hacking means that you will be able to run homebrews using the full power of the Vita.

Q: Is hacking my Playstation Vita worth it?

A: It depends on your personal preference. Firmware 3.60 is the latest firmware that supports native hacking at the moment.

Hacked Vita:

  • Being on an old firmware means you might be able to use future hacks and exploits.
  • Being able to play PSP games that are not released digitally.
  • Able to use almost all homebrews available for the PSP (Emulators, applications, homebrew games).
  • Native Vita homebrews has great potential and the Vita might become a monster in terms of emulation.
Non-hacked Vita:

  • Buying Vita games without worrying about having to update and lose hacks.
  • Access Vita PSN store.
  • Use PS+ on Vita.
  • Upload Trophies.
  • Chat with friends and online gaming.
  • Enjoy and use whatever improvements Sony might include in future firmware updates.
While native Vita hacking now is a possibility, most people still agree that hacking the PSP-portion of the Vita is sometimes more trouble than it is worth. If you are only interested in running PSP homebrews and backups it is generally recommended to get a PSP and hack that device instead.

Q: What is QCMA and what does it do?

A: Copying files to and from the PSV isn't as easy as it was with the PSP. You need to use Sony's Content Manager Assistant which only enables you to copy certain files to certain folders. This manager also connects to the internet. If you have a game which gets taken down from Playstation Network, you won't be able to copy that file back to your Playstation Vita. QCMA prevents the content manager to connect to the internet, making it possible to restore your game whenever you want.

Q: Is there any alternative to using QCMA?

A:
Yes! If you are using HENkaku you can use molecularshell's/VitaShell's built-in FTP Server by pressing "Select". You can then connect to your Vita using your favorite FTP software. Since you are getting to many sensitive portions of your Vita this way it is not recommended to touch or alter anything that you don't know anything about. But FTP is now also the most useful way to transfer files to your Vita/PSTV that the Content Manager doesn't allow you to transfer!

Q: What is the point of QCMA if I can just use FTP?

A:
QCMA actually let's you backup games/saves/etc in a more efficient way. It's useful because you don't need any kind of hack to use it. It's recommended to backup stuff on your Vita using QCMA every once in a while, because if your Memory Card decides to give up one day you can't transfer everything back in a reliable way. This will also make it so much easier for you to setup your potential hacks again if you decide to buy a new memory card for whatever reason.

Native Vita Hacking & HENkaku FAQ (Click the Spoiler Button)
Q: What are the requirements for installing HENkaku?

A:
A Playstation Vita or Playstation TV on firmware 3.60. Remember that downgrading is not possible at this time.

Q: How do I install HENkaku?

A: Make sure your PSVita/PSTV is on firmware 3.60, visit http://henkaku.xyz and follow the instructions.

Q: How do I install the taiHENkaku beta?

A:
Your PSVita/PSTV needs to be on firmware 3.60, then visit http://beta.henkaku.xyz and follow the instructions.

Q: What is Adrenaline?

A:
Adrenaline gives you the option to unlock the PSP side of your Vita while using taiHENkaku at the same time, essentially giving you the best of both worlds. Adrenaline gives you access to a fully functional PSP XMB with the ability to run PSP homebrews and backups.

Q: How do I install Adrenaline?

A:
Full instructions on how to download and install Adrenaline can be found here: https://gist.github.com/TheOfficialFloW/0ed4e09e2d447e631416cb84d7c43107

Q: What files do HENkaku use and how do I install them?

A:
When you have successfully installed HENkaku you will have a new bubble on your Vita home screen called "molecularShell", start it and you will be able to browse through the storage on your Vita. It also has a built-in FTP server function which you can start by pressing Select.

Q: What files do HENkaku use and how do I install them?

A: molecularShell uses .vpk files in order to install new homebrew bubbles. This means you will have to transfer the files to your Vita via FTP and install them through molecularShell. I created a folder in "ux0:" called "vpk" and just put the vpk files I wanted to install there.

Q: Are the any hacks for firmwares under 3.60?

A:
I would recommend updating to 3.60 to use HENkaku, but there is another hack.
Rejuvenate is a released hack and works on Vita 3.51 or lower. It's limited to homebrews only.

For more information go here:
http://wololo.net/rejuvenate-ps-vita/

PSP-Mode Hacking FAQ (Click the Spoiler Button)
Q: I am on a firmware lower than 3.60. Should I stay on my current firmware and hack the PSP-portion?
A:
With Adrenaline released for 3.60 and taiHENkaku I think most people now agree it is a better idea to update your Vita to 3.60 and start getting familiar using HENkaku and Adrenaline. All because you get the best from both worlds, that is a natively hacked Vita with the PSP portion unlocked as well!

Q: What firmware and game do I need to hack the PSP portion of my Vita?
A: This chart should answer your question!

VitaExploitChart.png

Q: How is "PSP-mode" hacking generally done?

A: It is usually done by buying a certain game on the Playstation Network, usually a few days before the release of the exploit/hack itself. YOU CANNOT DOWNLOAD THIS GAME FOR FREE ANYWHERE! Don't ask for a free download or someone to send it to you, because it just doesn't work that way. You also can't borrow someone else's PSN account to download the game.

The hack has thus far only been released as a save file, you upload this save file to your Vita, start the game, load that save and BAM: Custom menu with support for homebrew and backup loading.

Q: Can't I just buy the exploitable game on my Playstation 3 and transfer it to my Vita later?

A: It only works as long as the game still is on the Playstation Network, you are screwed if it gets removed. Don't wait or become lazy. Download the game to your Vita as soon as possible!!

Q: Where do I get the names of the exploitable games?

A: The game's names are usually announced as a "ninja release" on www.wololo.net. This means that you need to be a registered member on their forum to see it. This is done so that as many people as possible can get the game before it gets taken down on the Playstation Network. Don't worry though. The name of the games are released to non-members one or two days later, this is when I will announce the game in this thread. I beg you NOT to leak the release in this thread or anywhere else on the internet before the public release is at hand.

You are free to use this thread to ask me any questions you might have. I will add these questions to the FAQ if necessary!
