First announced at The Game Awards in 2021 with an impressive, but ultimately quite meaningless CG trailer, Star Wars Eclipse has been missing in action ever since. Just in case your memory needs refreshing, this is the Star Wars project from Quantic Dream — the studio behind interactive story titles like Detroit: Become Human, Beyond: Two Souls, and Heavy Rain.

It's widely believed that Star Wars Eclipse has had to endure a difficult development cycle, with leaks in 2022 suggesting that the title was barely in production. We haven't heard too much about the situation since, but word of lead writer Adam Williams' departure doesn't paint a particularly positive picture.

Williams, who was also credited as lead writer on the aforementioned Detroit: Become Human, announced his departure via LinkedIn, writing: "After almost 10 years at Quantic Dream, I am leaving to found a new studio – together with a group of very talented designers and developers."

Now, it's entirely possible that Williams' work on Star Wars Eclipse is done. Going by his statement, it sounds like he's leaving on good terms, as he offers thanks to the team and everyone who supports them. Williams could simply be moving on because the time is right.

Still, for a project that's basically had zero public presence since that CG reveal a few years back, it's a departure that'll no doubt raise eyebrows. At this point, the only cure for all of these reports and rumors is a proper re-reveal — but with a supposed 2027 release window, as per the leaks, it feels like we're still a long way off seeing anything that resembles a real game.
