It's been nine years since Crypt of the NecroDancer launched, its "hardcore roguelike" rhythmic battles making it an iconic experience.
Undoubtedly, it influenced newer titles like Beat Slayer, and so there is much joy that's come from this bombastic PC game.
Listen to the rhythm of your heart in Rift of the NecroDancer
Yet, it's been nine long years with no sequel; until now, that is.
That's right, the NecroDancer is back in Rift of the NecroDancer. Just like before, this installment uses the beat to help you launch your attacks. Only this time, instead of pixel art landscapes, you have the vibrance of a cartoon art style to set the mood.
Those longing to experience the musical might of this Steam game needn't wait for its undisclosed 2024 launch, as there's a free demo available.
"The NecroDancer's back in an all-new rhythm game! Dragged into a strange new world, Cadence must engage in musical combat with monsters pouring through the Rift!"
The synopsis continues, "Face pulse-pounding Rhythm Rifts, epic boss battles, & quirky minigames, all set to a killer new soundtrack by Danny Baranowsky and friends."
If you want to spice things up with your own music, fear not, for the sequel has "custom music and mod support"; god bless the developers.
As previously mentioned, there's no specific date beyond 2024 that tells us when we can join Cadence on their journey.
Still, with a free downloadable demo to give us a little taste of the action to come, we don't mind waiting for those tasty beats a little longer.
Rift of the NecroDancer's demo is available on Steam right now. However, please note that only Windows systems are supported at this time.
