The question of who will play the lead roles in the next mainline Grand Theft Auto game has been the subject of rampant fan speculation for years. As far as the game's male protagonist is concerned, one long-standing theory was that the GTA 6 role of Jason went to Bryan Zampella. The actor himself was happy to stoke those rumors with frequent social media posts reminiscent of Vice City imagery. But evidence suggesting Zampella's involvement in the much-anticipated game has always been shaky, at best.
Actor Gregory Connors Hints at GTA 6 Involvement
Another potential candidate for the role of Jason is Gregory Connors, a New York-based stage and screen actor with over a decade of industry experience. According to Connors's resume reviewed by Game Rant, the 37-year-old has landed a "lead" voice-over role in a Rockstar Games project planned to hit the market in 2025. The only announced game matching that release window is Grand Theft Auto 6.
Connors May Also Be the Main GTA 6 Antagonist
The description of Connors's involvement in the game doesn't necessarily guarantee that he is the one playing Jason. Although Grand Theft Auto 6 will ostensibly have only one male protagonist that he could portray, Connors may as well have been cast in the role of the game's main antagonist. While Rockstar has yet to share any details about the upcoming game's villains, the developer's track record suggests that at least one of them will receive enough screen time to be classified as a lead role, much like Samuel L. Jackson's Officer Tenpenny from GTA: San Andreas.
Connors's purported involvement in GTA 6 dovetails with a gap in his acting credits. According to IMDB, 2023 was the first year in over half a decade that Connors wasn't credited in any known media production. Given what is known about the GTA 6 development timeline, 2023 may have been the year when Rockstar recorded a large chunk of the game's voice-over work. The actor has one other video game credit to his name, having played a navy officer in Amazon's 2020 audio adventure Starfinder for Alexa-enabled devices.
Connors's voice-over demo reviewed by Game Rant indicates that the American actor has a rather wide range of voices that he can perform. And while he may have indeed been the voice of Jason that can briefly be heard in the first Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer, the audio samples of the character are too limited to conclude that with any degree of certainty, or perform a more meaningful analysis.
