Back in 2007, Atlus released the action RPG Aegis: The First Mission, a Persona 3 prequel focused on Aigis, exclusively for mobile phones in Japan. It hasn't been available to download for quite some time, and with no ROMs available online, the game was considered lost. That will change sometime soon, however, thanks to the G-Mode Archives, a series of re-releases of Japan-exclusive mobile phone games on Switch and Steam. The G-Mode Archives release, like the original, will only support Japanese text (as confirmed on the Steam page), but it's possible an English translation patch will be available after launch. While the original game has been lost, a full playthrough video was uploaded to the Japanese video-sharing website NicoNico...
I've probably played World of Warcraft too much over my years on this planet. Spending hours levelling, raiding, doing dungeons, or just hanging out in Orgrimmar watching other players go by; it's one of the biggest time sinks out there. As you get older and undertake more responsibilities it can be harder to spend as much time in the game that once ate your life. We spoke to WoW's executive producer, Holly Longdale, about how the next expansion aims to help Azeroth's many time-strapped solo players. While World of Warcraft has always been fairly accessible for players who adventure by themselves, it's an MMORPG at heart. As such, there's certain roadblocks in the way unless you've got a team at your beck and call. With new features...
While Team Fortress 2 has received less attention from Valve than its other team-based shooter Counter-Strike 2, it hasn't been abandoned as some corners of the Internet claim. The game has been consistently receiving small updates every few months, tweaking maps and characters as Valve sees fit. The latest update is more substantial than usual, however, as it finally brings Valve's 17-year-old shooter into the 64 bit era. Valve pushed the new update to the game yesterday, adding 64-bit support to TF2 for both Windows and Linux users. The update also fixed a much more specific issue "related to uploading invalid custom decals that would crash other clients." Valve noted that the change "should include performance updates for most...
The original Tails of Iron was quietly a big success for developer Odd Bug Studio. The action RPG about a kingdom of rats has drawn in a lot of fans thanks to its sketch-like art style, deliberate combat, and explorable world. We suppose the fact it's narrated by Doug Cockle — voice of Geralt in The Witcher series — may have something to do with it too, but whatever the case, the team isn't resting on its laurels for Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter. After watching the sequel in action in a hands-off preview, it's clear there's plenty here to stop it from growing stail — sorry, stale. Though it's a numbered sequel, Tails of Iron 2 follows a whole new story with fresh characters. Set after the events of the first game, you play as...
Remember the Indie World showcase from earlier this week? It was sweet, huh? Well, to show just how sweet it was, Nintendo has today taken to Twitter to release its regular infographic highlighting all of the titles that were featured. Now it's true, this Indie World graphic might not be quite as stacked with icons as those that we have seen from full-fat Directs in the past (even the February Partner Direct one was beefier, if we're honest), but it's still a handy one-stop shop to see the full lineup at a glance either and we are particular fans of some of the logos on show. As you can see, while they may have been few in number, there was actually a good number of featured games to get excited about. This wasn't the first time that...
Nintendo's marketing campaign for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is well underway at this point (as you would hope, given its 23rd May release date) and that means we are getting to see a lot about what the remake has in store. A new short trailer shared on Twitter today contains some fresh footage of the game, giving us our first look at select locations, map reveal animations and, perhaps most importantly, the cloudy chapter boss Smorg — who's looking just as intimidating as we would have hoped. You can find the new footage in the following tweet from @NintendoUK. Yes, it's only 25 seconds long, but what can we say? We're excited! All in all, things are looking really rather swell for the Switch remake. There are only a few...
Rabbit & Bear Studios, the developer behing the upcoming Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, has confirmed that it is "moving forward" with a sequel after the franchise creator's death earlier this year (thanks, VGC). Yoshitaka Murayama, who also created the Suikoden franchise, sadly passed away following complications from an ongoing illness. In a Reddit AMA session, Rabbit & Bear Studios confirmed that it hopes to "carry on Murayama'a legacy" while outright confirming that a sequel is in the works. When later asked if the team could share any memories of Murayama, it replied "No matter how bad Murayama's mood or his health, he was always happy and smiling as soon as he saw the joy and excitement of his fans. I know that he loved you...
Although we're still waiting on the Stardew Valley '1.6 Update' for Switch, the game's creator Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone is already rolling out new updates for the PC version. In the latest update (1.6.4 update), the creator has added all sorts of new content and features on top of everything that's already been included in the 1.6 update. The highlight in 1.6.4 is the fact there are now 20 new 'alternate' main layouts and 20 new volcano mines layouts. There's a bunch of other content, and along with this are some translation changes, balance changes, visual improvements, quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, and much more. While we wait for Version 1.6 to arrive on Switch (according to a previous update earlier this month it's...
Nintendo has been building up excitement for the return of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door with regular reminders the game is on the way. Just earlier this week, its social accounts introduced the main cast of the game and now it seems to be sharing a slightly more detailed breakdown of each character starting with Yoshi. Yoshi has similar abilities to previous games, where he can flutter jump in the air to cross short gaps. He also comes in many different colours in TTYD, and like the rest of the crew will help out Mario in combat. Here's a look, which also shows him in battle: As a bonus, Nintendo has also uploaded a brief clip of "Rawk Hawk" (AKA The Golden Grandstander) who happens to be the reigning champ of Glitz Pit...
Over the years, we have been blessed with a plethora of amazing RPGs taking inspiration from one another and each (sometimes) being even better than the last, and one RPG that comes to mind is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Despite existing long before The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt arrived on the scene in 2015, this fantasy RPG set in the lands of the Continent helped put Polish developer CD Projekt RED on the map and the studio hasn't looked back ever since. Check out The Witcher 3 next-gen trailer below! Over the years The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would arrive on other platforms including a very impressive port for the Nintendo Switch. It would also receive a gorgeous free new-gen upgrade on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in December...
Mere days ago, I was whining about how a new trailer for Cupid Parasite: Sweet and Spicy Darling didn't quite make up for the lack of a known release date. Someone somewhere must have heard my cries, because today Idea Factory International announced the game's release date. It also dropped a Fan Disc trailer that traces the throughline between the best endings of Cupid Parasite and Cupid Parasite: Sweet and Spicy Darling. The first game in the series, Cupid Parasite, follows a top bridal advisor named Lynette at Cupid Corporation in glitzy Los York. Lynette also happens to be Cupid herself, desperate to get a promotion. To do so, she has to handle the matchmaking of the Parasite 5 – who just so happen to be infamous for being hopeless...
When I think of Idea Factory otome games, much of what comes to mind is as cute and colourful as the upcoming Cupid Paradise: Sweet and Spicy Darling. Don't get me wrong, those are wonderful and creative games – but what if an otome visual novel decides to go dark with a supernatural theme? You end up with 9 R.I.P., where players will get swept away with Japanese urban legends, ghosts, demons, and spirits. It has already launched in Japan but now it's been confirmed that the haunting title will also be coming West for Nintendo Switch – and sometime this year! Towns always have gossip. It's usually about who is hooking up with who, which is kind of where 9 R.I.P. ends up leading anyway. Here, there's an old rumour about people being...
Hades 2 is the hotly anticipated follow-up to the breakout success that was Supergiant Games's foray into the roguelite genre. Promising a new protagonist and an expanded roster of gods and goddesses to meet, fans of the original are champing at the bit to get in on some of the action. A Playtest allows potential players to get a taste of the game while also providing crucial feedback about its stability, glitchiness, and general feeling. Whether it's curiosity or downright loyalty that makes you want to be a part of this process, you'll be glad to hear that applying is as easy as anything. How To Sign Up For The Technical Test Applying for access to the technical test is as easy as heading to the Hades 2 Steam page, scrolling down...
I'm almost ashamed to admit that I forgot how good Hades was. The roguelike took over my life for months when I picked it up back in 2020, but after unlocking all the weapons, finding perfect boon combinations, and maxing out friendships with every character, I never looked back. Such is the curse of someone who writes about games for a living, we must always be moving onto the next big thing, never taking a break to look back at the things we loved of yesteryear. In the three years since, I've not found another roguelike quite roguelike it. I've tried my hand at plenty, but I've come to the conclusion that I was spoiled. Hades was my first proper entry into the genre, and it's yet to be bettered. Its sequel, Hades 2, is trying to do...
I would describe Read Only Memories: Neurodiver as a cyberpunk psychic mystery visual novel with point-and-click adventure elements. Or is it the other way around? Either way, use the word psychic in any capacity describing a game and I'll instantly be interested. (Or the word cryptid, kind of funny because Read Only Memories: Neurodiver actually references Mothmen 1966 by the same publisher.) It follows an esper (psychic) named Luna, codename Esper8801 or ES88 for short, as she tries to unravel the identity and reasoning of Golden Butterfly. I was lucky enough to play a preview build. Like, seriously lucky. Because I've been drawn fully into the world of future Neo-San Francisco. Luna is generally referred to as ES88 in-game, so I'm...
Surprise! Hades 2 is finally here and playable. Supergiant's hack-and-slash, flirt-with-gods roguelike is a brief technical test away from its Steam early access debut. I've slashed my way through its opening area and first boss and now I need more. Even though it's clearly in an unfinished state, it's good. Like, really good. A small part of me was a little hesitant to see Supergiant do its first direct sequel. Every game since 2011's Bastion has taken us to completely different worlds with new approaches to combat. I wasn't even a huge fan of Pyre, but I respect any game that is brave enough to mix strategic action with sports game elements à la NBA Jam. Bastion was my favorite until Hades grabbed that torch and brought it into the...
After two disappointing expansions in a row, World of Warcraft's 2022 Dragonflight expansion righted the ship with its back-to-basics approach and focus on evergreen features. The numbers, as they say, don't lie, and Blizzard has reported increased player retention and recovering subscription numbers over the last two years, thanks not only to Dragonflight but a steady stream of new content and events that have kept players coming back for more. It's not surprising then that the long-running MMORPG's next expansion, The War Within, is looking to continue that trajectory, and from my hands-on time playing the expansion's alpha, it succeeds in that goal. Like Dragonflight, The War Within puts more of an emphasis on game-wide features...
Apologies for the incorrect date in the header image – Nintendo AU never published one so this is UK time. As always, expect about 20 minutes of announcements and updates on indie games coming soon (or soon-ish) to Nintendo Switch. While all of these are confirmed for Nintendo's console, there is a very good chance they are already available or launching on other platforms. Actually, several of them specifically state that they are timed console exclusives. I've translated seasons to quarters to make it more friendly for both hemispheres; for example, "this summer" becomes Q3 2024. Now let's get to the goodies! Game highlights Little Kitty, Big City (Double Dagger Studio) The title Little Kitty, Big City describes this game perfectly...
Braid: Anniversary Edition for Nintendo Switch has been pushed back a few weeks to 14th May 2024, Thekla Inc. has confirmed. The enhanced rerelease of the classic indie puzzle platformer was originally due to launch on 29th April, so we don't have to wait much longer to get our hands on the game. It's not all bad news, however. Jonathan Blow, the director of the game, has revealed even more new features coming to this anniversary release. On top of what we already know — improvements to sound, repainted visuals, enhanced animations, the choice between the old and new styles, and over 15 hours of commentary — we'll also be getting 14 "Commentary Index Levels" to accompany that commentary, 13 brand new puzzle levels, and 12 alternate...
The time has finally come, and after many, many years (if not decades) of Apple users having to side load emulator apps into their iOS devices through unofficial stores (like AltStore), emulators are finally a reality in the official Apple Store for iOS devices. The Delta emulator, the successor to the original GBA4iOS emulator, has just been officially added today to the Apple Store for iOS, with the emulator supporting the following consoles from the get-go: Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) Nintendo 64 Game Boy Game Boy Color Game Boy Advance Nintendo DS The emulator also includes a wide variety of features expected from an emulator nowadays, like cheat support, save states, fast...
