The next wave of Game Pass additions is a momentous one, as it will be the first to feature an Activision-Blizzard title, fulfilling a promise Microsoft made when it acquired the publisher in a mammoth $68.8 billion deal. Diablo IV will be the first Activision-Blizzard title available to Game Pass subscribers when it comes to the service next Thursday, March 28. Although Diablo IV is the headliner, this is a good wave of new titles overall. Coming today is The Quarry, a full-length branching narrative horror game from the makers of Until Dawn. Yesterday also saw the launch of the newest edition of MLB The Show, and at the beginning of April we'll get the Superhot sequel, Superhot: Mind Control Delete. As a bonus Game Pass Ultimate...
Denuvo by Irdeto has unveiled at GDC (Game Developers Conference) this past March 18th their brand new anti-piracy technology named "TraceMark", specifically tailored to make "leakers think twice". This new technology is aimed towards the never-ending problem in the gaming industry of pre-release videogame leaks, be it press releases, distributed review copies or broken street dates. The watermark technology which Denuvo unveiled is apparently already trusted by Hollywood, paid-TV and sports leagues. Quoting Denuvo's own blogpost about the technology: This brand new technology will be platform-agnostic, meaning it can be implemented in different systems as long as the game has the technology integrated into it, and so far it seems to...

The XREAL Hub (displayed in the image above) is a two-port accessory that lets you charge your source device and connect your XREAL glasses at the same time. Santa Monica Studio's God of War first launched on the PS4 back in 2018 and on PC for the first time in 2022. Last week, the DRM-free version debuted on GOG and having not played it before myself, I jumped at the opportunity this time around. For those unfamiliar with the title, here's a quick refresher. Despite a confusing naming convention, God of War is the 8th instalment in the God of War series and is the sequel to 2010's God of War III. It puts players back in control over the titular God of war, Kratos, but this time accompanied by his son Atreus. This father-son duo ventures across the realm of Midgard to fulfil Atreus' late mother's wish which unfolds into an eventful journey. While following the canonical story, God...
With Nintendo ceasing online communication for Nintendo 3DS, 2DS and Wii U systems next month, SpotPass data distribution will be halted. This will in turn affect games that use SpotPass features such as Mario Kart 7 and some Pokémon games. In order to enable such features to persist even after official support ends, the SpotPass Archival Project was launched. It allows owners of 3DS, 2DS and Wii U consoles to contribute their SpotPass data for archival purposes to assist network revival services in preserving SpotPass content. The project page notes that when collected, database dumps are anonymized before being sent to network revival services to allow SpotPass features to be replicated later. It further notes that "in the interest...
A YouTuber has leaked some insider paperwork that reveals what future plans Sony has in store for the next PlayStation hardware. The channel Moore's Law Is Dead showcased what are purportedly internal documents directly from PlayStation's developer portal, stating that a PlayStation 5 Pro is allegedly in the works. According to these papers, Sony aims to have a PS5 Pro--codenamed Trinity--out for the 2024 holiday season, with the system boasting major performance increases over the original PS5. Supposedly, the PlayStation 5 Pro will offer 33.5 teraflops, compared to the PlayStation 5's current 10.28 teraflops, and will utilize Sony's own in-house developed upscaling software, which will provide benefits similar to AMD's FSR or...
Nintendo is back at it again with their latest and most well known franchise, the DMCA, and this time they went after quite a handful of GitHub repositories with their DMCA strikes. The latest and most notable repository attacked by Nintendo's DMCA is the "sigpatch-updater" homebrew application by iTotalJustice (alongside all of its forks) just a few days ago. This isn't the first time for iTotalJustice however, since he got another DMCA takedown previously for the standalone "sipatches" repository before back in 2022. The application worked as its title implies, by basically updating the signature patches from within the Nintendo Switch console itself. This seems like yet another instance of Nintendo trying to stomp on any kind of...

The highly controversial PlayStation 2 emulator for Android devices, AetherSX2, has been removed from the Google Play Store starting from March 10th, 2024. This doesn't come as a surprise for many, though, as the AetherSX2 emulator halted development entirely back in 2023, with the developer specifically mentioning the "neverending impersonating, complaints, demands, and now death threats". Although, it took almost a year for the actual emulator app to be taken down from the Play Store, following the discontinuation of the project. While AetherSX2 has suspended development a long time ago, and the Play Store will no longer offer the emulator, there's currently a community effort put into patching certain the latest available AetherSX2...

Back in January 19th, Microsoft posted an entry in their blog about the company detecting a "nation-state attack" on January 12th that affected several of their systems. Back in January, Microsoft worked on mitigating, disrupting and investigating the attack, which according to Microsoft's investigations, led to the threat actor being Midnight Blizzard, a Russian state-sponsor actor that also goes by the name of NOBELIUM. According to their initial blog post, the way in which the attackers gained access to Microsoft's systems was through a password spray attack, then gaining access to a portion of corporate Microsoft email accounts, but back then they assessed that the attack didn't show evidence of any stolen assets or data, but...

Yet another emulator bites the dust, in the aftermath of the Tropic Haze/Yuzu vs. Nintendo case. Pizza Boy, a $5.49 paid app on the Google Play Store, has been taken down and is no longer available for purchase. Developer Davide made an announcement post explaining that he has permanently removed his app from the Play Store, citing the reasoning as, "I have chosen to prioritize my family over the development of my apps." With the implication that he has not been forced to delist his emulator, but has chosen to do so as a precaution after other emulator developers have been affected. Currently, several other paid GBA/GBC emulators are still available on the Play Store, including John GBA, My Boy!, and Nostalgia.GBA. Source

After a rough week, the emulation and homebrew scene continues to suffer major losses. As of today, homebrew developer Steveice10's GitHub repository has been deleted. A known quantity in the 3DS homebrew scene, Steveice10 created important tools for the system such as a modified sysupdater, a port of GBC emulator GameYob to the 3DS, and most importantly, FBI title manager, which allows users to install .CIA format 3DS titles and homebrew. FBI has not been updated since 2020, and was considered feature-complete, with its source code available and the project archived, but it was suddenly removed from GitHub today, along with all of his other projects. The exact reasoning behind the removal isn't known, though the timing implies it may...
