Mega Cat Studios announced earlier this week that it will be bringing the Genesis / Mega Drive shmup ZPF to Steam, allowing PC players who don't happen to have a Mega Drive knocking about a chance to experience the game upon release.
The Steam version of the game will be available to backers via a new $15 tier called "Digital Revelry", which also comes with a digital bundle including a manual, poster, OST, and artbook. It can also be added to previous physical reward pledges too, so you don't need to back the project again if you've already supported the project in the past.
According to the press release that went out to publications to accompany the exciting news, those who choose to add a Steam code to their existing pledge will...
It was over a year ago now that we first reported that Bitmap Bureau was bringing its critically acclaimed retro-style beat 'em up Final Vendetta to the Neo Geo AES and MVS and we've finally got our first glimpse at how it will look running on Neo Geo hardware.
In case you're unfamiliar with the story so far, Final Vendetta was previously released across a range of modern platforms like PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox before Bitmap Bureau announced its intentions to bring it over to the retro systems and started accepting pre-orders in July last year. At the time, the plan was for the finished ports to be delivered sometime between Q4 2023 and Q1 2024, but it has since been subject to an indefinite delay, which the company...
If you're someone who prides themselves as being something of an aficionado when it comes to the world of run 'n' gun games, then you likely won't want to miss out on G Warrior — a new indie action game from Liao Kai, the developer of the incredible 2023 shoot 'em up GanaBlade.
G Warrior is described on Steam as "a retro hardcore action shooting game" and sees players take control of one of two heroes as they embark on a mission to destroy an army of robots and aliens standing in their way.
It features some lovely, colorful retro-inspired pixel art, a range of cool weapons and skills to unlock including shotguns, lasers, and shields, and a chiptune soundtrack reminiscent of the types of soundtracks you'd likely hear on NES back in the...
After Untitled Goose Game, I'll check out any game about a bird doing pesky things to local hoomans. Because of this, Just Crow Things makes perfect sense to me. How could you not want to play a game with something called poop modes?! This punny sandbox adventure has you playing as a little crow, trying to prove herself in a big world. Just Crow Things is set to launch for PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox in mid-August; PlayStation versions will launch later.
As a little crow, you only have one goal: joining the Cool Crow Clique. But you'll have to prove yourself to be the coolest bird in town. She's even be customized with cute hats, scarves, and more. There are 10 unique levels, each full of fun items to discover, puzzles to solve, and...
Seen by many fans as the black sheep of The Legend of Zelda franchise, Zelda II sticks out as one of the most unique titles in the series, switching the top-view that made the original The Legend of Zelda for NES such a classic in favour of a side-scrolling adventure, one that the series wouldn't see officially (and partially) again until Link's Awakening on the Game Boy (and excluding the CDi titles of course), with LA only using a side-scrolling view for very limited areas in dungeons.
Even though the game does have its haters, known romhacker infidelity has taken upon the task of porting the entirety of Zelda II into the SNES, which he did a couple of weeks ago back in June 28th, 2024. The port itself features some slight quality of...
It is a good day for creepy video game news! Japanese-style horror adventure game Hollow Cocoon was released for PC via Steam last December, self-published by developer Nayuta Studio. The horror game is set in Japan during the 1980s. The screenshots look almost serene but don't get lulled into a false sense of security. Horrific things will begin when night falls. Hollow Cocoon will be coming to Nintendo Switch next week, courtesy of publisher Regista.
The game follows Minato Jinba, a university student. He lives away from his parents, in a boarding house in the city. Minato gets news from his father that Minato's maternal grandmother is in critical condition, so he takes the journey to a village deep in the mountains where his mother...
Last week, Nintendo released a bizarre teaser trailer titled Emio. (It has since been edited to include the entire title.) It is grainy. It is creepy. I don't think anyone could make sense of the 15-second trailer consisting mostly of a person wearing a beige trench coat and a paper bag over their head. In Japan, the trailer was titled The Smiling Man. Today, Nintendo revealed the mystery—and it's an exciting one! A new Famicom Detective Club is on the way for the first time in over three decades. Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club is the third game in the classic mystery visual novel series, and it will launch soon: at the end of next month!
The Famicom Detective Club series began in 1988 with The Missing Heir, followed by...
The official Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 beta dates have been revealed, along with the early access that'll be available if you pre-order the game starts on August 30.
As announced in the new Call of Duty podcast on YouTube, folks with a pre-order of Black Ops 6 will be able to take part in the early access beta from August 30 to September 4, and then the full open beta for everyone will run from September 6 to September 9. The beta starts and ends on those days at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BT.
There are a couple of pretty significant changes to this beta period in the wake of Microsoft's acquisition of Call of Duty publisher Activision. As Charlie Intel noted, this will be the first Call of Duty beta in the series' history to happen at...
Hotta Studio, the game developers who brought the world Tower of Fantasy are at it again, this time with a brand-new, open-world RPG set in a sprawling, futuristic city fraught with supernatural occurrences. Tower of Fantasy, Hotta Studio's initial product in the open-world genre, features a light sci-fi style and anime aesthetics. With the successful introduction of Cyber City (ver2.0) and Future City (ver4.0), the game continues to thrive in its long-term operations.
This has paved the way for the just announced urban open-world RPG, titled Neverness to Everness, which promises immersive gameplay thanks to the studio's upgrade to Unreal Engine 5. Along with the announcement, Hotta Studio has opened pre-registration for players who...
The team behind the SuperSega FPGA console has shown off its Dreamcast core in a new video.
Crazy Taxi, Gunbird 2 and Super Street Fighter II were shown off in the footage.
The system, which is expected to be completed later this year, also runs Master System, Mega Drive, Saturn and Sega CD games, all via FPGA cores. It is powered by the Virtex Ultrascale+ FPGA chip.
The SuperSega team claim that the Ultrascale+ has "100K-200K of logic cells that can emulate a Dreamcast behavior."
When it comes to the most requested fan ports for Sega Dreamcast, Grand Theft Auto III for PS2 is often high on the list. And it's easy to understand why.
Not only is it a landmark title that pushed the game industry forward with its 3D open-world exploration but it also famously began life on the Dreamcast before development was shifted over to the Sony platform, with former Rockstar staff claiming in the years since that progress was only abandoned due to the Sega console no longer being considered a commercially viable project.
This has left Sega fans to question what the game might have looked like if it came out for the console and to await someone who is dedicated enough to try and port the game over themselves. Well, it appears...
Samsung just revealed its new lineup of folding phones, so I thought what better time to do a write-up on their current generation of the Z Flip, which I have been daily driving for almost a full year (10 months). My experience was not what I expected, and I think this will be a good read if you are considering getting the new Z Flip 6.
I bought the Flip 5 because I wanted something different after using a slab phone for years. A flip phone in 2024 offers more than just the novelty of snapping it closed when you want to hang up on someone. The clamshell form factor, when closed, feels much better in your pocket and leaves more space for other items. The cover screen is a great way to keep you less distracted in a world where every app...
Marc Robledo, also known as Marc Max is the Rom hacking scene, is back again with a brand new colorization project, continuing with the previously announced multi-romhack project "Mega Man Mania".
As usual with projects by Marc and his team, we can expect a great quality product in this latest colorization Rom hack, which not only colorizes the entire game, but also features a number of bugfixes and quality of life changes compared to the original monochrome official release.
Marc has implemented a full colorization from beginning to end, timing, hitboxes and animation fixes, full hardware support, and also a brand new NES pause screen. The full list of features can be found in the Romhacking.net page for the Rom hack:
As with...
You may have heard about NetEase's eagerly awaited free to play open world survival game Once Human, which launched last week. You may also have heard about its controversial seasonal wipes, the backlash over its paid cosmetics, and its (now changed) policy of players not being able to switch servers or create more than one character per account. Our own Harry Alston says the game is pretty good in his review-in-progress, but all in all the game has opened to a Mixed review rating on Steam.
At the time of writing, about a third of Once Human's 23,539 Steam reviews are negative. Players are highlighting a number of issues, including seasonal wipes, poor optimization, lack of difficulty in non-PVP servers, and not being able to join...
9 R.I.P. falls into the category of a supernatural horror otome visual novel. (This is why I have dubbed it a horrom: horror-romance.) Misa Isshiki is struggling under the weight of life's burdens. She's heard rumours of prowling ghosts and people disappearing, which she finds strange and a bit scary. She craves an escape but when the opportunity is presented to her, will she take the chance? Today, Idea Factory International (IFI) announced that 9 R.I.P. will be launching in the West at the perfect time: two weeks before Halloween.
The rumour about people disappearing also says those with lots of anxiety or struggling in another way are those most likely to be taken. It is pretty scary for poor Misa, young enough to be in her second...
PS2 emulator PCSX2 has just been updated to version 2.0, bringing with it a raft of improvements.
The update comes four years after the previous stable revision - during which time, the emulator has received over 6000 changes, passed 100 million downloads, and celebrated its 20th anniversary.
This update includes a new UI design, the assimilation of plugins, simplified configuration files, automatic game fixes, per-game settings, big picture mode, improved translation support and vastly enhanced compatibility.
There's also "fastmem", EE and VU recompiler optimization, Vulkan support, better sound, improved controller mapping and RetroAchievements - as well as much, much more.
"It has been quite the journey getting to this point...

Analogue has already given us a few limited edition variants of its popular Analogue Pocket FPGA handheld, and it's lining up another selection.
The next quartet of "highly limited" variants is made from aluminium and comes in four Anodized colours: Natural, Noir, Black and Indigo.
Each unit is entirely CNC'd from aluminium – "every single piece," says Analogue. "With uncompromising attitude to quality. There has never been a handheld video game system like it."
"Each and every piece of the enclosure is fabricated entirely from solid billet 6061 aluminum," says the company.
The units will cost $499.99 each and go up for pre-order on July 15th 8am PDT. They'll ship two days later.
NeoStormer is about to open pre-orders for GCNET, a new GameCube network adapter which plugs into the console's memory card slot.
"Utilizing Broadband Adapter emulation using Swiss GCNET allows you to enjoy online and LAN multiplayer gaming on your original hardware, all at a significantly lower cost than the authentic Broadband Adapter," says the manufacturer.
GCNET is compatible with all GameCube models and is a plug-and-play solution – there's no internal modification required. It supports 10BASE-T Ethernet connectivity and maintains SD2SP2 functionality, too.
Supported titles include 1080° Avalanche, Homeland, Jikkyō Powerful Pro Yakyū 10, Kirby Air Ride, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II, Phantasy...

Made from "zinc-alloy material" and compatible with both Switch and Windows PCs, the limited edition pads cost $99 each and are strictly limited edition.
That's not the only way the company is marking its birthday – 8BitDo is also holding a special sale, with 20% off many of its most popular products.
