Krikzz's Open-ED ROM cart is now up for sale.
"There are no fancy features that modern cartridges usually have, so don't buy this device unless you're sure you understand what it is," says the cart's official product page. As previously noted, the cart doesn't have its own processor or FPGA – it uses memory and discrete logic only.
Game industry layoffs began to rise last year and haven't slowed down. In November 2023, IGN-owned Humble Games laid off a bunch of staff but a number was never confirmed. Another round of layoffs hit today and there is some confusion around it. One employee tweeted that "the entirety of Humble Games was laid off," while another posted on LinkedIn that it was "most" of Humble Games staff.
Hours later, someone over at Humble Games decided that they might as well try to clear up any confusion. A statement on social media reads:
"In these challenging economic times for indie game publishing, Humble Games has made the difficult but necessary decision to restructure our operations. This decision was not made lightly; it involved much...
Doom 64 has been the black sheep of the series for quite some time, and it wasn't until a few years ago that Doom 64 got an official modern port to consoles and PC (Steam). Although Doom 64 is sometimes overlooked, it is still a very good and highly atmospheric sequel to Doom 2. While Doom 64 doesn't have as many enemies as Doom 2, with some like the Revenant, Chaingunner and Archville being absent from the sequel, the game more than makes up for it with its atmosphere of dread and the unique and eerie soundtrack that accompanies every level.
Before Doom 64 was re-released for modern audiences, it had its fair share of community-made recreated source ports, with the most prominent engine being Doom64 EX, which allowed for Doom64 to get...
It's been five years since DC's Joker film swept the box office and became the highest-grossing rated-R movie of all time and even had Joaquin Phoenix take home the Best Actor at the Academy Awards. Now Arthur Fleck, this universe's Joker, is a high-profile resident of Arkham Asylum and comes across therapist Harleen Quinzel (Lady Gaga). We got our first look at the feature back in April, but we go all out with the bad romance here.
The trailer shows a musical mayhem murder tour as the couple falls in love and experiences shared delusions. Harleen slowly loses her own grip on reality and becomes the Joker's lover and accomplice. Since his murder of talk show host Murray Franklin, Fleck/Joker has been put on a pillar by those who...
The term "golden age" is meant to elicit feelings of wealth, grandeur, and opulence. For the railway in the US, this era is dated from the early 1900s to the late 1940s; it was a time when most people travelled by train, often in luxury. Railroads Online isn't set in exactly that world but in one reminiscent of it. The open-world train sim puts you in the role of a pioneer shaping the future of the United States. The game can be played solo or with up to 15 friends simultaneously in online co-op mode. Railroads Online has been in Early Access for PC since 2021, and it will fully launch for PC plus consoles later in 2024.
Railroads Online allows you to create and run your railway your way. You'll have your hand in everything: building...
Every time I see "Wuthering Waves" I think to myself "wow, they've gone and made a game of Wuthering Heights, my favorite novel of all time." That is unfortunately not the case, but Wuthering Waves does still look decent, as a free-to-play open-world RPG that has clearly been inspired by the success of Genshin Impact.
And it has very pretty girls.
Now it's finally coming to console after following Genshin Impact's trajectory of a PC and mobile release first. The game will release on PlayStation 5 at some point (release date still to be confirmed), and will be playable on the console at the ChinaJoy event from July 26 to 29.
Wuthering Waves has been a contrast between players, who seem to enjoy it a great deal (with a 4.5/5 average...
An hour isn't anywhere near enough to get a feel for what any kind of RPG will offer, let alone a Soulslike. Imagine trying to predict what Elden Ring is if you're only able to reach the limits of that first, lush forest before the demo taps out? You can't. All you can do is walk away with a promise for what is to come.
This is my experience with AI Limit. The developers provided me with a look at the first hour of gameplay, which is essentially the introductory area, and I've walked away with a promise. Thankfully, it's a very strong one. Will AI Limit redefine the genre and challenge Elden Ring? Probably not, but as a first effort from a scrappy first-time developer, taking a swing at a monumentally difficult genre, I was almost...
Yet another mobile game is being erased from history, as Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios announce that their title, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, is being delisted from the Google Play and App Store. The game was released on October 17, 2023, and has already been made unavailable for download. Those who previously had the app downloaded will still be able to play the game until October 21st, with in-game purchases remaining available to players until August 23rd. This is yet another licensed mobile game being delisted after a very short run. According to a multitude of posts on LinkedIn, the game's shutting down is due to NetherRealms suffering a multitude of layoffs, especially to its mobile gaming division.
Despite the...
Last month, the digital distributor GOG surprised everyone when it announced it was bringing the original Resident Evil trilogy back to PC, after years of the games being difficult to find and play on modern PCs.
For the Polish company that often cites commercial preservation as one of its primary aims, it was a major win, giving old and new players an easy way to officially acquire the uncut versions of the survival horror classics. However, it also got people wondering what exactly went into bringing them back, and perhaps more interestingly, whether we'll see any more classic Capcom titles coming to GOG in the future.
So, earlier this month, we reached out to GOG and put some questions to Marcin Paczyński, the senior business...
While many people will default to places like London, Manchester and Guilford when asked what they consider to be the UK's most significant place when it comes to video game development, the midlands is (or was) the home to the likes of Rare, Core Design, Blitz Games, Playground Games, Codemasters, Ultimate: Play the Game, Playtonic, Free Radical Design and many, many other companies – which gives us enough reason to think of it as the nation's "Silicon Valley", at least in terms of video game production.
The recent Nottingham Video Game Expo, which took place on the 20th and 21st July 2024, lends some credence to our viewpoint; the event could be seen as a small-scale successor to the mighty GameCity celebration, which has sadly been...

Is that you, Chibi-Robo!?
I thought we'd seen the last of one of my favourite little gaming dudes, Chibi-Robo!, after the critical and commercial failure of 2015's Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash. I came into the series with Chibi-Robo! Park Patrol, which is funny considering it didn't sell very well here in North America. Once the series hit Zip Lash, it became unrecognizable to me: what was this side-scrolling platformer with combat nonsense? And I was one of many to think that way, considering the lack of further...
Update [Sun 21st Jul, 2024 09:15 BST]: SNK's Joshua Weatherford has reconfirmed that we're getting a new Art of Fighting and Samurai Shodown RPG at EVO 2024 (thanks, Gematsu).
Original Story [Tue 19th Sep, 2023 11:05 BST]: Yasuyuki Oda, General Manager of SNK Software Development Division 1, has revealed that early work has begun on a reboot of the Art of Fighting series, as well as a Samurai Shodown entry which isn't a fighting game.
Speaking to the Japanese site 4Gamer (thanks, gosokkyu) Oda said:
Oda explains that the project is in its very early stages, and the team that will develop and design it is still being built. "It's a series that stopped running in the early 1990s, so we have to start by brainstorming how we can bring...
Back in May of 2020, the first chapter of the new adventure rhythm game known as "Starstruck: Hands of Time Prologue" was released on Steam, allowing many players to experience the game and what it had in store for the eventual full release.
Today, the full game's planned release date has been announced, with the final date set for September 16th, 2024.
The story revolves around the player taking control of a Captain that time travels from the future alongside its companion AI, Hadley, in an effort to save the future from an unknown danger that threatens the Earth, and for it, they have to monitor two kids (which the players also controls) that are pivotal to the salvation of the planet, each with their own paths and stories.

The last couple of Alien movies have been good for the most part but it feels like they've been missing the raw, skin-shredding tension of the first few films. The latest trailer for Alien: Romulus looks like the series is headed back to its dark, claustrophobic roots.
Alien: Romulus features a whole new crew of doomed space-trekking souls who encounter the deadly Xenomorph on a derelict spacecraft. This time, it's a crew of space colonizers who are scavenging for resources from abandoned ships and stations.
This Alien film was co-written and directed by Fede Alvarez, the filmmaker behind cult horror flicks such as the two Don't Breathe movies and the Evil Dead remake. So, yes, Alien: Romulus is gonna be very tense and very, very...
"We all have a moment that defines us..." One week to go!! Marvel + 20th Century have revealed the third & final official trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, formerly known as Deadpool 3, the latest in his foul-mouthed, absurdly bonkers comic book movie comedy series. Who's ready?? It's time for the infamous Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool, to mess up the MCU by getting his tricky little fingers all over this superhero-filled multiverse. Even though this is technically just the sequel Deadpool 3, Wade is diving full on into the whole Marvel franchise and bringing Wolverine along with him to mess around with the past (and future). Ryan Reynolds stars once again as Wade Wilson / Deadpool alongside Hugh Jackman as Logan / Wolverine, and a cast...
When we were playing Donkey Kong Country in the early '90s, we never expected there would come a day when we would be able to play the game as Mario.
But now, thanks to a hacker named RainbowSprinklez, it's finally possible to play as the iconic moustachioed plumber (specifically the version of Mario from Super Mario World), to see how he would fare against King K. Rool and his army of Kremlings (thanks CM30 for the spot!).
Interestingly, as is noted on the Romhacking.net page, this isn't just a simple sprite swap but features some impressive behind-the-scenes engineering to get a bunch of Mario-themed mechanics working in the Donkey Kong Country engine.
Coin blocks, for instance, make an appearance, as does Yoshi. And Mario has a...
If you grew up playing classic barbarian-based hack 'n' slash titles like Golden Axe and Rastan Saga and have been looking for something to scratch the same itch, then you'll likely get a kick out of Abathor — an upcoming 4-player indie action platformer from the developer Pow Pixel Games and publisher Jandu Soft.
The game is releasing next week across PC and consoles (Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC) on July 25th, and looks set to feature a beautiful pixel-art aesthetic and retro-inspired soundtrack that aims to evoke the style and sound of classic arcade titles from the '80s and '90s.
In the game, you select from one of four players from a selection that includes the barbarian Crantor, the Valkyrie Sais...

There must be near-infinite content updates planned for PowerWash Simulator. Since its 2022 launch, new content includes two Muckingham updates, free seasonal content updates, free Tomb Raider DLC, free Midgar DLC, SpongeBob SquarePants DLC, Back to the Future DLC, Warhammer 40K DLC, and most recently Alice's Adventures DLC. The best thing about these updates is that many cost nothing to the player but a bit of time and internet bandwidth. Today, developer FuturLab and published Square Enix Collective announced PowerWash Simulator's second washer-versary celebration; it includes three free new updates for the game on PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox. (So basically everything but its VR version.)
Here's a summary of PowerWash...
A few days ago Team17 announced that Amber Isle, a prehistoric shop sim, will launch for PC on October 10. The original announcement mentioned PC and Nintendo Switch versions of the game but the PC launch date was just that. It was only today that Team17 that Amber Isle will be launching for Nintendo Switch, also in October just a couple of weeks later.
It's time to set up shop in Amber Isle! The village is friendly and bursting with a mix of Paleofolk (the game's name for the game's prehistoric animals, as they are from many different geological eras) The Paleofolk are absolutely desperate for you to breathe new life into their community and bring the Isle back from the brink of fossilization.
Amber Isle has seen better days, and...
