However, it is no surprise that Nintendo has been hard at work on a successor to the Nintendo Switch which, since release in 2017, has managed to sell over 15.7 million units. Due to its ability to act as both a handheld and standard console, the Nintendo Switch took the world by storm.
Now it is time for the Nintendo Switch 2 and according to Famiboards, a discussion forum for Nintendo and all its consoles, there is already some information available online.
This comes after community members spent time tracking shipment and customs data between Nintendo, NVIDIA, and other companies to try and discover what specs the Nintendo Switch 2 will have.
Their findings show the possibility that the next Nintendo handheld will have 12GB of RAM "from two 6gb 7500 MT/s LPDDR5 (LPDDR5X? It's unclear) modules". Additionally, it may have 256gb of internal storage.
As well as these impressive figures, leaker CentroLeaks believe the Nintendo Switch 2 could come with an built-in microphone as well as an 8-inch display.
Furthermore, they also suggest that it could arrive as early as 2025 and we can expect more information in the Fall. This could be seen during Nintendo's June Direct as well as August's Indie World.
Even more excitingly, some third-party games could be confirmed for the Switch 2 as early as the end of 2024 and the handheld will also have physical and digital backwards-compatibility with the original Switch's games.
It is worth noting that all of this information comes from leaks and fan-sourced information so it is worth taking with a pinch of salt. However, if true, it looks to be an exciting couple of years for Nintendo fans.
