Personally, we've always felt Life Is Strange is at its best when it's being grounded, but we appreciate a big part of the franchise is how its characters' powers intertwine with the storyline. And we reckon heroine Max Caulfield's evolved dimension hopping abilities could be the best conceit the series has come up with yet, as it allows you to explore two separate timelines: one where her friend (and presumably also love interest) Safi is still alive – and another where she isn't.
This concept is cool because it opens a ton of gameplay possibilities. For example, you may receive clues about one timeline by talking to a character in another one. You can move in and out of the dimensions, and developer Deck Nine has included some tells to help you understand which version of the world you're actually exploring.
While the examples in the trailer don't seem great – Max uses her powers to fetch a freakin' wrench for her friend – we assume this is rudimentary stuff, and the developer is keeping the bigger plot points under lock and key.
We love a good narrative adventure, and this is looking like a good one. We can't wait to step into Max's shoes once more later this year.
