It's as natural as day turning to night: make a silly announcement and the memes will follow. Sony's decision to price the PS5 Pro at a hair-raising $700/£700 has proven the perfect backdrop for a social media clown show, then – and boy are some of these memes amusing. For big corporations like PlayStation, there's no such thing as bad news – but some of these gags may have Mark Cerny and crew wincing behind the sofa.

First, there's the obvious jokes about how the system actually looks. Obviously, in appearance it's practically identical to the PS5 Pro, save for a trio of speed stripes down the side. To be fair to Sony, this isn't a bad thing – it means you can use existing detachable disc drive accessories or face plates, giving flexibility if you're upgrading from the PS5 Slim. This meme is still funny, though:

Because it looks so familiar, some people who've balked at the asking fee have opted to customize their existing consoles to give themselves that supercharged format feeling – all it takes is a bit of tape and you can give it a go yourself:

Others pointed to the diminishing returns current-gen consoles are facing. Obviously, the PS5 Pro is capable of much higher resolutions and performance than the base model – but during the system's presentation, Lead System Architect Mark Cerny had to zoom in on certain scenes to try and illustrate the difference. These may have left you squinting to say the least:

And some people may have been looking for those differences for a long time:

Those who could see the differences will have observed something very important, however: a toofpick changes everythang. As demonstrated below:

The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley attempted to add context to the PS5 Pro's price by comparing it to inflation adjusted prices of previous PlayStation platforms. This led to all sorts of amusing responses, including a fake interview with IGN:

Spoof site Hard Drive even revealed that Sony was working on a Pro version of boots for "Keighley to lick":

It's all in good fun, of course, and regardless of your opinion of the PS5 Pro, hopefully you've derived some fun from the reactions to it. Personally, we're a big fan of our very own @Zuljaras' take on the whole situation. If you haven't seen his meme yet, make sure you give it a like!
