Earlier today, it was reported that 650 employees were being laid off from Microsoft Gaming, with many of those said to be from Activision Blizzard. Things have been pretty quiet ever since, and it seems there's a good reason for that.

According to The Verge's Tom Warren, Xbox's social media teams were told to "go dark" for the day following the news, with the idea being to avoid an embarrassing "Feel the Burn" situation like last time. This refers to a tagline for a controller that was awkwardly revealed on the same day as four studio closures back in May.

Here's what Warren had to say in his tweet:

Of course, we don't know how long the whole "go dark" thing will apply, but the official Xbox Twitter (or "X") account hasn't tweeted for 21 hours at the time of writing, so it seems Microsoft wants to play it safe for the moment.

We've covered the employee layoffs situation elsewhere on Pure Xbox if you want to read more - basically, it's said to impact "mostly corporate and supporting functions" in order to help organize the business for long-term success.
