Evercade maker Blaze has issued a statement following reports that some pre-orders of its new Evercade VS-R home console have failed to reach customers.
According to Blaze, stock has been "oversold" by some retailers, meaning that some of the people who pre-ordered the machine prior to launch didn't have a system allocated to them.
Blaze says that additional stock is currently on its way to affected retailers, and more units are in production. It added that in Spain, the release date has been pushed back to October 1st.
The full statement can be found below.
The Evercade VS-R is a revised version of the original VS home console and ships with a copy of Tomb Raider Collection 1.
The National Museum of Nature and Science in Japan has announced that the PS2 will be among the 18 new additions selected to be part of its 'Future Technology Registry' (thanks VGC for the spot!).
This makes it the first console to appear on the list of devices that have been chosen since the initiative first began back in 2008.
The Future Technology Registry is an initiative that is focused on cataloging important Japanese scientific and technological accomplishments, with previous entries to the registry including the VHS format, the world's first CD and portable CD players, the world's first LCD calculator, and the PC-98 computer, among others.
According to the Japanese website GameSpark (as translated by Automaton), the PS2...
Remember the bank raid in Michael Mann's legendary 1995 crime caper, Heat? It's one of the most iconic shoot-outs in Hollywood history, and was so influential it even inspired a video game – one which never saw release and is only now becoming playable.
As documented by Games That Weren't, The Last Job (also known as The Heist) was in development at Acclaim Cheltenham, with a team of around 40 people involved. Intended for release on the PS2 (an Xbox version was mooted but apparently abandoned), it was shown off behind closed doors at E3 2004 and offered a unique premise.
You controlled a team tasked with raiding several locations and getting out with as much money as possible. The twist here was that you got to control all the...
Sergiy Dvodnenko's Saturn FPGA core has surprised a lot of people with its level of accuracy – after all, this was a venture that many assumed would never happen on the MiSTer FPGA platform.
However, Dvodnenko's hard work continues and the core has just passed another important milestone in terms of accuracy – it now achieves a 100% score on the Sega Custom Sound Processor test utility.
Also known as the Yamaha YMF292, the Saturn Custom Sound Processor is found in the Saturn as well as the Sega Model 2A-CRX, Model 2B-CRX, and Sega Model 3 arcade boards.
While audio is, of course, just one part of the puzzle, the fact that the FPGA core has scored 100% accuracy certainly bodes well for its future development.
It's already close to...

Copycat stood out at this year's Not-E3 after being featured in Future of Play Direct (Season 5). That trailer haunts me due to its quick shift in tone. In the beginning, Olive adopts a cat named Dawn. But don't let the colorful visuals fool you: she starts bonding with her new human but soon finds herself stuck outside, the victim of a nefarious and jealous stray cat. Dawn wanders around the neighborhood, alone, such a small girl in a big world. It's heartbreaking. Will she be able to get her new home back? Australian/Ukrainian collective Spoonful of Wonder has announced that Copycat will be released later this month as scheduled, and there's a new release date trailer for the game.
Copycat is a complex, three-act story. Play as Dawn...
If you've been looking for an excuse to revisit Streets of Rage 2, then today's your lucky day.
The prolific ROM hacker and "retro mad scientist" BillyTime!Games has just released a brand new IPS patch for the classic 1992 sidescrolling beat 'em up, which adds a simple levelling system to the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis game to mix things up a bit.
With the patch installed, players will start out as normal with the typical amount of strength and the exact same resistance to damage but will then be able to gain a new level every 100,000 points to raise these attributes further. Each successive level increases the player's strength and resistance by one, with these bonuses lasting until they run out of lives.
It's an interesting...
Nape Games, a small Spanish studio, has just launched the Kickstarter campaign for Restless Anima: Engine Room — a brand-new psychological horror game coming to the Nintendo Entertainment System and Sega Dreamcast (as spotted by SegaGuru!)
The game features a setting that is loosely inspired by the experiences of the designer, programmer, and producer Napoleón Malpica, who worked as a Merchant Marine Officer for 13 years. On Kickstarter, Malpica describes the project as a game that "recreates the true terror of working at sea on a merchant ship with a video game touch", which, in this case, translates to an 8-bit action-platformer that sees players navigating a ship, solving puzzles, and battling with mysterious entities named Animas...
In a new blog, entitled "Th3 B1G R3V34L", Read Only Memory's editor-in-chief Darren Wall has offered an update on its upcoming WipEout book WipEout: Futurism.
In the post, Wall revealed 15 new photos of the book — which will contain interviews, design documents, and artwork from the popular racer. He also claimed that copies of the Special Edition are set to arrive at their warehouse in mid-October and start shipping out to backers immediately after.
That means it shouldn't be long now before you can finally hold a copy of the book yourself if you were one of the lucky people to back the project last November.
Elsewhere, in the blog, Wall goes on to describe the project as "a portal to both the future and the cutting edge of 1990s...
Atari CEO Wade Rosen has been speaking to Game Developer about his company's recent revival of the Infogrames brand and says that he wants it to become a "preservationist" publisher that can work with old IP and bring it up to date.
Rather than signing up new games to publish under the Infogrames label, Rosen wants to see it become a home to older titles with a proven track record:
One franchise Rosen would dearly like to work on is Quest's Ogre Battle / Tactics Ogre series, which began life on the SNES back in 1993.
The current owner of the IP, Square Enix, recently remastered Tactics Ogre on modern-day systems, but Rosen is nonetheless keen to work on the series in some capacity:
Would you like to see Ogre Battle get a...
Irem's legendary shmup R-Type has been shown running on the Atari 7800.
According to @atariio, this is work-in-progress footage, but it nonetheless shows how capable Atari's system is in the right hands.
"Beautiful side-scrolling with parallax background begins to demonstrate what the 7800 has always been capable of," says the account on social media.
Released in 1986, just as the NES was taking over the market, the Atari 7800 failed to recapture the commercial success of the Atari VCS / 2600 and would be discontinued in 1992. A new variant, the 7800+, is being released at the end of this year.
R-Type is one of the most influential shooters of all time and has spawned a number of sequels, as well as imitators. The most recent...
Sony have announced that their new hero shooter Concord will be going offline on September 6th 2024 and that sales of the game have been immediately halted with Sony offering full refunds to those that have purchased the game.
Concord had reportedly been in development for 8 years with a budget somewhere in the range of $100-$250 million USD. The game saw very few players during its open beta back in July of this year and when the game launched fully on PC and PS5 a little under 2 weeks ago it was welcomed by a middling reception. The game saw a peak player count of 697 on Steam and even failed to make the top 25 best sellers list on the PlayStation Store.
The game has faced stiff competition in a bloated market of similar shooters...
During last week's Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, we got our first glimpse of Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land. Anything explained was vague: it's an alchemy RPG and a woman dealing with her past and it's expected to launch in early 2025. Today, publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Gust released a full trailer for Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land alongside a good amount of information about its story, gameplay mechanics, and visuals. There's even been a release date set!
Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land follows Yumia Liessfeldt and her companions through a world where alchemy is believed to be evil. They are seeking the truth behind the fall of...
There are many survival crafting games available that can have you spend countless hours in, so Dawn of Defiance has big shoes to fill if it wants to capture your attention. The creator and publisher, Traega Entertainment, is a relatively new game development studio, but their team consists of veteran developers from companies like Blizzard, EA, Bungie, and more. They have only one other game under their belt, Aegis Descent, which has mixed reviews on Steam. However, this new survival game, Dawn of Defiance, has received a positive reception in its early access debut.
As you begin your journey in Dawn of Defiance, you'll find that the game does not hold your hand. There is no tutorial or guide to ease you into the gameplay. I was...
Bitmo Lab, a new technology brand formed by Chinese companies JSAUX and SSPAI, has shown off the GameBaby, a case for the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro Max which transforms your device into a fully-fledged portable games console.
The GameBaby is a two-part case which, when not in use, protects the sides and back of your iPhone from damage. However, you can detach the bottom section and turn it around so that its physical buttons rest on the screen.
Here's some PR:
The GameBaby can be pre-ordered here and is sold for $19.99 for the first 1,000 units. After that, the price rises to $24.99 for the regular pre-sale price. When it eventually launches, the GameBaby will sell for $39.99.
Last week gave us the very welcome news that Argonaut Games is back, and it's remastering Croc: Legend of the Gobbos as its first project.
We had an inkling that this would be a popular announcement given the reaction generated when Jez San hinted at a Croc HD back in 2023, but it seems that the revived Argonaut has been surprised by the level of love shown towards its games.
"When we started to look at the possibility of bringing back Croc Legend of the Gobbos and relaunching Argonaut Games, we began by researching whether or not people still remembered or cared enough to justify doing so. We quickly concluded that yes, it was worth it and got to work," said the company via its social media account.
"What we hadn't completely...
The ModRetro Chromatic is one of the year's most exciting retro hardware announcements and will give Game Boy and Game Boy Color fans a new means of reconnecting with their beloved collections of carts.
However, one format the system doesn't play is Game Boy Advance. When we spoke to ModRetro CEO Torin Herndon recently, he explained why the Chromatic doesn't play GBA games like its FPGA rival, the Analogue Pocket:
He also said that we can expect more consoles from the company, hinting that GBA would be a future project – and that sentiment has recently been reinforced by ModRetro founder, Palmer Luckey.
Speaking to our pals over at Retro Dodo, Luckey said:
The ModRetro Chromatic launches later this year.
When we recently reviewed the MagicX XU Mini M, we noted that it was said to be running the Rockchip RK3562, a relatively new package which was introduced in 2023.
Despite this new chip, we found that higher-end emulation for systems like PSP and Saturn was rather spotty, and now we know why – it's not running the Rockchip RK3562 at all, but the older RK3326 from 2017.
A teardown by TheGammaSqueeze has revealed the older chipset:
According to Notebook Check, MagicX has severed ties with the company which supplied the chipset. As we noted in our review, there were already reports that MagicX was looking to release another variant of the device with an Allwinner A133 Plus chip.
Perhaps the company already knew that the RK3562 inside...
AI is everywhere you look now, and it doesn't feel like it will be long before Skynet becomes a reality and we're all scurrying around in the rubble, John Connor-style, desperately trying to eke out an existence under the metal boot of our robotic oppressors.
But until then, let's enjoy this mildly diverting footage of a computer learning to play Super Mario Kart on a real SNES console.
"Meet LuEAgi, a program that learns to play Super Mario Kart with minimal information via an evolutionary algorithm," says LF_MrL314, its creator. "This is running on a real SNES, by the way."
You can watch the progress here, and while we're certainly not AI experts and have no real idea of the processes involved with this, the live footage...
