Bandai Namco has released not one, not two, but three new gameplay trailers for Bleach: Rebirth of Souls. They provide character-specific looks at the upcoming fighter, with Ichigo Kurosaki, Rukia Kuchiki, and Uryu Ishida taking to the stage. They're pretty stylish trailers, and give us some insight into how each character will play. Ichigo, for example, seems to be a bit of an all-rounder with an emphasis on potentially huge comebacks through big damage. Uryu, meanwhile, is a more methodical combatant who can keep his opponents at bay with long range strikes. Ichigo Rukia Uryu We don't yet know how many playable characters Rebirth of Souls will have, but it does cover a sizeable portion of the property's story, running through...
Developer Gelato Games has revealed Guns of Fury, a 2D-pixel art action game that blends the high-octane gameplay of Metal Slug with the explorative elements of Metroidvanias like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Launching on Switch and Steam later in 2024, it's from the same two-man team that released the quirky action-platformer Goblin Sword back in 2020, and this time, they're bringing on composer Dominic Ninmark (Blazing Chrome, Gravity Circuit, Mighty Goose) to help bring the game's soundtrack to life. We have to say, the visuals for this one are lovely; there's a ton of detail in the character design and environments, and the overall aesthetic reminds us of the rather excellent Mercenary Kings, which itself was heavily...
The ColecoVision name carries quite a bit of weight with retro gamers. The original console was a powerful rival to the Atari VCS and Intellivision, and was host to some excellent arcade ports and original games – but when the North American games industry crashed in 1983, all of that good work was sadly undone. Even so, the name has resurfaced more than once in the past few decades, and it's back again, this time as a MAME cabinet which costs over two grand. "Nearly 42 years after the original console revolutionized home gaming, ColecoVision is proud to announce the launch of the ColecoVision Full-Size Stand-Up Arcade Cabinet," says the press release. "This new product, developed in partnership with American Gear Company, combines...
Modders @WeskMods and @YveltalGriffin have cooked up something pretty special – a Wii console which is small enough to fit on your keys. The Kawaii began life as a challenge to create the smallest functional Wii. It boasts a machined metal unibody measuring just 60x60mm, magnetic pogo pin connectors for power, AV and controller connectivity and even a special dock for unlocking GameCube controller support. It's passively cooled, too, so there's no internal fan. The planned specs are as follows: 60x60x16mm CNC'd aluminium chassis (passively-cooled) with laser-etched artwork Undervolted OMEGA trim with Thundervolt 12-pin magnetic pogo pin connector (MagSafe-like) Internal breakout PCB for SD-USB, input protection, and video mixing Dock...
The fated day is here. Last August, Microsoft said they would be shutting down the Xbox 360 Marketplace forever, on July 29, 2024. With the closing down of the storefront set to happen any minute now, it's the end of an era. The Xbox 360's digital store launched in November 2005, with the shuttering stranding plenty of classics that were exclusive to the platform. At the very least, any purchased games will still be available to download to your system, but if there's any games you've been waiting 19 years to play, this is your final chance. What were your favorite titles on the Xbox 360, and are there any games you wish you got the chance to play? Source

As more information about 2XKO comes to light, most of the attention is focused on how established characters from League Of Legends are being adapted into a fighting game. And that makes sense--seeing characters from a well-known franchise enter a new realm is always interesting. That "fish out of water" feeling brings a huge appeal to crossover characters like Negan in Tekken 7 and Banjo-Kazooie in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, to name a few. However, after playing a few rounds of 2XKO at Evo 2024, I realized that solely focusing on how the game reimagines classic LoL characters is a disservice to the rest of the game, which makes major shifts to the 2v2 fighting format, from modified mechanics to a philosophical shift in how we're...
Modders @WeskMods and @YveltalGriffin, have created a fully functional, keychain sized Wii console. The Kawaii is a tiny credit-card sized shell that measures just 60 x 60mm (2.3 x 2.3 inches) and is built in a sleek, machined metal unibody case. You will need to sacrifice your own Wii console to use with the Kawaii which may not be for the faint of heart due to the precise cutting and trimming required. The project, which has been worked on for some time now, initially started as a discussion between Wesk and Yveltal when the two explored just how compact they could make the console, even aiming to surpass the already ridiculously small GC Nano in size. After experimenting with different designs and ideas, they decided on a machined...
Numskull Games has announced that Data East's 1982 arcade classic BurgerTime will be the next classic game to join its Quarter Arcade range. The fully playable quarter-scale arcade cabinet is a wooden replica of the original arcade machine and stands 17.4 inches tall and 6.2 inches wide, with a depth of 8.5 inches. It features a 5" TFT screen, a 3-watt built-in speaker (with volume control), and also contains dip switch access to allow you to tweak various settings. It is powered by an internal lithium battery, and is also rechargeable via a USB-C port positioned on the back of the machine. You can pre-order the device now on the Quarter Arcades website (via JustGeek) for £199.99 / $229.99 / €229.99, as part of an early bird offer...
The handheld manufacturer GoRetroid has just announced a new dock for its handheld family of systems, over on Twitter. The dock, which will be called the Retroid Official Dock, will apparently be ready to ship next week and already has a preview page up on the website, where it is priced at $29.90 (without shipping). It is a 7-in-1 dock and will include a USB-C port, two USB 2 ports, two USB 3 ports, a LAN port, and an HDMI port capable of connecting to your 4K 60FPS TV screens (for the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro only). Yesterday, the company did tease that an announcement was on the way, posting a set of lyrics from the popular song "('Sittin On) the Dock of the Bay", which in hindsight is obviously a reference to this upcoming device...
If you're a fan of the earlier entries in the Final Fantasy series — job classes and all — you'll likely be just as excited as us to learn about Scarmonde — a new 8-bit RPG coming to PC later this year (via itch.io and Steam). Created by the indie developer Ephiam, who previously made games like Venaitura and To Aerthen, it is pitched as being "for anyone who just wants to jump right into a classical RPG experience without any of the thick layers of story and dialogue bogging them down". In the game, you play as a hero who has been summoned to the land of Scarmonde by the God of Dragons and must then prepare a four-person search party to venture into the depths below to retrieve three Sacred Treasures. Similar to early Final Fantasy...

The remastered version of Shadows of the Damned, the 2011 PS3/Xbox 360 action-adventure title developed by Goichi "Suda51" Suda-led Grasshopper Manufacture, is coming to current-gen platforms in a few months' time. Publisher NetEase Games has unveiled the launch date with a new trailer: Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered expands the classic with a number of features: New Costumes: In addition to Garcia's iconic jacket, "Purple Reign", there are now four new costumes to choose from: Placa Garcia, Ocho Corazones, Demonio Garcia and Kamikaze Garcia Now includes New Game+ Mode: A feature requested since the original release, the Hella Remastered edition includes a New Game+ mode! I've always found hidden object games relaxing. There is something about allowing your brain to zoom in on a scene to find things that is just delightful. I cannot tell you how many of those old Big Fish Games titles I've played for stress relief. Hidden object games are currently in a renaissance because of titles like Hidden Folks and Hidden Through Time. Hidden Through Time and its sequel, Hidden Through Time 2: Myths & Magic, specifically appealed to me because there's more of a story to go with the discovery. Needless to say, I was excited when Hidden Through Time 2: Discovery was announced… and my excitement grows with today's release date announcement! The game is a sequel to a sequel, not the third in a series… if that makes...
This week in games, the trend is titles set in a taiga featuring protagonists with amnesia! That's oddly specific, but let's run with it! First, Grizzly Man was announced (and you'll want to read more about it here). Now the spotlight turns to Angst: A Tale of Survival. Teased before under the working title of Project Papillon, the survival-roguelite hybrid game features (very appealing) stylized visuals and lore-rich quests. It has been announced for PC, consoles, and mobile devices, though it will begin as an Early Access game for PC next year. In Angst: A Tale of Survival, you'll fight for your life in a frozen taiga after waking up in an old cabin. You remember the snowstorm outside beginning and intensifying, but then nothing. Can...
After quietly being delayed last year, Iron Meat now has a new release date, courtesy of both its developer and publisher. As just revealed on social media, the game will now be released on September 26th, 2024, across Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox, and PC (via Steam, Epic Game Store, GOG, and itch.io). There will also be physical editions available to pre-order for PS5 and Switch, which are being handled by Strictly Limited Games. You can watch a new trailer for the game below:
AYANEO has announced that it will be holding a special launch event livestream next week to mark the start of the IndieGoGo campaigns for its Pocket DMG and Micro handhelds. "Get ready to relive your handheld dreams," says the Chinese company, which has produced a wide range of Windows and Android-based gaming systems. "On Wednesday, July 31st at 8:00 AM EST, AYANEO will take you back to the beginning with the launch of the AYANEO Pocket DMG & MICRO." The Pocket DMG takes inspiration from the Nintendo Game Boy and is likely to be seen as a rival to the Analogue Pocket and ModRetro Chromatic – although it's worth noting that it lacks the ability to play physical cartridges. It sports an OLED panel, as well as a D-pad, analogue stick...
With its series of Pixel Pulps games, LCB Game Studio is bringing something fresh to the visual novel genre. The games look retro (and the stories are retro-pulpy), but they don't quite play like a retro title might because different minigames are incorporated into each game. For example, you can try your luck at impossible solitaire in Mothmen 1966, catch fish in Varney Lake, and try to survive a car chase with a cult in Bahnsen Knights. Recently, all three games were compiled into a physical collection—but that doesn't stop me from craving more! The developer has been teasing the fourth title in the series on social media – placing it solidly in the slasher genre – and today it was officially announced: Grizzly Man! While part of the...
BitSummit, held in Kyoto every sweltering hot summer, plays host to an incredible amount of indie developers from across the globe. As you might expect, it can be rather hard to stand out – so much so that it was even difficult for us to curate a list of impressive Switch games down to only 10 titles this year. However, Cassette Boy, with its muted Game Boy-like color palette, exuded so much retro charm that we couldn't help but play it more than once, chatting with the sole developer Kiyoshi Honda whenever he had a moment to spare from the hordes lining up to play his game. We sat down with the Nintendo Switch version of Cassette Boy for our first go around, later coming back to hammer through some challenge levels on a Steam Deck. A...
